Not really an outtake, but it is what I would have entered had my computer AND Photoshop quit working on the final day to enter!

I got my first DQ for some over zealous PP work. I'm okay with that. I got a lot of comments that people didn't know what it was a picture of. So here is the original, then what I submitted first, then a resubmit after I did some more work that ultimately led to the DQ.

I didn't like the way the background was drawing attention away from the face in the tree. So I used a radial blur to wipe it out, which was the effect I wanted, it just wasn't legal.

It's one of my favorite photos because the whole thing was prompted by the tree and how it spoke to me, as opposed to a created image in response to a challenge goal. I would appreciate any comments.

I really liked your entry...but, I found the long shadow distracting. The out take is really cool...I find myself liking it a bit more.

No reason. I just liked the high key on it. When I get a chance I'll upload the color version.

I really like this one - Great sharpness and conversion. I like her look and angle. Really striking image. Nice.

Wow - I am shocked by the number of people who prefer my out take to the one submitted.
People seem to love this pic...

It's also the one that made the front of the papers -

But I still prefer the one I entered just because it's a little more artistic - It really is great knowledge though to see what people think.
I was very lucky to still get a blue with my entry.

No outtakes but here is my original and my entry - which suprised me how well it did.

I'm not unhappy with my scores at all but I thought it was cute and funny to have mom's butt in this picture, it gave a reason why the cub was getting wet...but apparently people would just have liked a boring centered cub better. I'm way off on what looks good I guess. Oh well, thanks anyway to all who voted on my image.

Doc, you picked the right one.
Joe, I like your outtake better for the unusualness of it and the stories it begs. Your entry was, of course, much more DPCish.
Goran, I LOVED your entry. Has much more energy than your outtake!
Don, both are excellent.
Nicolas, I don't think you know how to take a bad picture.
Elvis, tough choice! I liked the entry but the others certainly don't suck.

Not that either of these (nor my submission actually) was generally a good FS, these were two more outtakes from our session. I had gone to Daves specifically with DPL album cover in mind. His kids were running around with mine as I was shooting and both of his took turns sitting with him. An impromptu family shoot sort of. I believe these images ended up as being Mothers Day gifts for his wife.
