Okay all, we did make it, which is great, and I'm really excited about the season. We have good, creative, interesting people on our team, and everyone here wants to try, so let's see how much fun we can have with it!

If you haven't found it yet, here's how to get to our private forum: click on the "League" link in the menu bar above, and on the left in the DPL Quick Links is a link for "Private Discussion Thread." That's where we will all meet!

See you all there.

Best,

Rob

Desat II is member only..:(

Yeah, we made it!
05/14/2007 01:25:54 AM · #5
Okay, all, we're in. 72 teams finalized!

First challenge is the member challenge "Desat II". I haven't been able to figure out how to start our private thread, but once I do, I'll let you know (probably by PM) how to get to it, and we can talk this through.

Now I can really say: This is going to be fun!

Best,

Rob

Hi

I only just saw your post today and realise you probably don't need any new members right now. But I would be interested if you have any vacancies.

I am a Brit currently in the middle of relocating from Chicago to Tampere, Finland! I have been without my own computer (just the work non fun stuff!) For the last month but should have my own machine back in my possession by the end of this week.

I've been unable to participate for a while due to the relocation, but hope to start taking part again soon. As I said, if you do have any vacancies, I would definitely be interested.

grbrya (Austria)
joekent (UK)
Marigold (UK)
menele (UK)
Monicagd (Romania)
rheverly (UK)
yianisn (Greece)

Our philosophy: To play as a team, to get to know and support each other, and to have fun. We are not "gunning" for the title, but we are participating and all doing our best.

Our requirements are few: that you have entered at least a few challenges; and, that you do your best to enter at least one qualifying challenge each week that we are in the competition.

If you are a member, welcome and thanks for joining! Post here, tell us about yourself, and let's start getting to know each other.

News
We need to teams total signing up to get to 72 for us to be able to participate. Right now there are 68 created teams, but only about 56 are finalized. Hopefully four more teams will be created, and all of them finalized or else we won't be able to play (we weren't in the first 48 teams finalized). Keep your fingers crossed.

New Members
I have invitations out to two other people one other person living in Europe, but if I don't get an acceptance soon, we'll find another. If current members have suggestions, let me know. Anyone who wants to join, please post here!

So, this is going to be fun!

Of course I am hanging around! And speaking about logo - thank you for chosing my "design". I proud of this, even if I know it can be improved. I think it's my first work in Photoshop... I like blue more then grey but it matches forum's colors this way...

Good luck everyone!

You're right, Monica, we'll need to work out how to use your Picassa space for that. You do plan to hang around for awhile, right?

The logo looks great, Monica, thanks for that. I have uploaded the logo (I downloaded it, added a black border, and upped it on our league page). You can add the following to your signature (I've put it below my signature) and the logo will show up in your forum posts:

//images.dpchallenge.com/images_team_logos/71.jpg

You will need to put the image tags around the link to make it work; I can't show you here, because if I do it just adds the image to this post instead of showing you the code. The image tags are "[img]" at the start and "[/img]" at the end. Let me know if you won't work for you (don't forget to turn your signature on in your preferences page).

We're at 67 confirmed teams, so let's see what happens today and tomorrow.

Best of luck to those with images in current challenges.

Enjoy the weekend!

Rob, I don't think I have Workshop acces:
"Note: The portfolio system is only available to paying members. You'll need become a member if you would like to manage your portfolio on DPChallenge."

I made the changes and here it is the new logo: Logo Euro Squadron. Do you have some ideas to "spice" it?

Thank for your kind words - I know I was quite lucky and it will take a lot until I will be able to go but I'll wait! (and improve my English skills - please correct me if I am making mistakes!)

Thanks Rob for setting this up and everyone else for joining in!

Fingers crossed we're in and good luck to everyone for next week.

See you soon.

I am now pretty confident that we'll be in. Sixty-six finalized, and now a fight for who will finalize as team 72. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed (or my thumb pressed, if you prefer); please do the same!

As we gear up for the league, the challenges that should count should be those that are announced with or after the competition begins at rollover on Sunday night. So, the member challenge announced at rollover Sunday night/Monday morning, and then the open challenges announced at rollover Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. We should all plan on trying our best to get into one of those challenges, and more if we can reasonably do it (but no stress once we each get to one). Then we'll do that for five weeks.

Joe will be away until Saturday, but should still be able to shoot for one of the open challenges due in that next Tuesday, or maybe even the member challenge due in Sunday night. Take the camera with you on Holiday, Joe, but most of all, have fun while you're away. We'll be here for you when you get back!

For the rest, at Sunday night rollover, we'll have a new competition to discuss, and a private thread where we can have private discussions. Remember, the private threads are open to the Site Council, but as we're not cheaterheads (because we care more about getting better, having fun, and improving our shooting than we do about winning), that shouldn't be an issue. In that thread we can share shots, discuss techniques, critique, ongoing scores, and all that. So that will be good for us!

By the way, to upload a shot so that we can see it but others can't (unless you tell them about it), just put it in your "workshop". It's not publicly available there without a direct link, but if you post the thumbnail in our private forum, we'll be able to see it and give you feedback.

This thread can probably die (though other teams are using these threads for trash talk, I don't think that's our style), but we'll leave it open and see whether we have any use for it.

Okay, I think that's it for now from control (sorry, my little girl loves the German version of "Starlight Express", and the little kid in it is forever saying, "Hier ist Kontrol").

Let's keep in touch!

Best,

Rob

I'm getting a bit more confident that we'll be in the competition:

Monica, don't worry about moving yet and messing up the European flavor of the team, the immigration process should still take longer than the competition. Congratulations on that, by the way, there's quite a bit of luck involved in winning the lottery (I know a few people who have tried repeatedly and failed!). I'm sure you'll enjoy the U.S., it can be a wonderful place at times!

Sounds good on the competitions this week; I'll put more thought into DPL, just for more practice, and I'll really try to get that shot on Sunday when I drive down to Stansted to pick up my in-laws!

Good to see you all here and talking a bit. We start to feel a bit like a team, even :)

Best,

Rob

I have something in the Cultural Events doing OK and I have something entered for the DPL cover which will probably bomb but I like it :)

On the lookout for either of the opens this week but off to see the parents this weekend and may not get anything.

Hi Rob,
I like your idea. I live in Athens Greece. Don't have much free time at the moment, but i love challenges. Especially photographic and i would like to try it.

I'm hoping to get some photography done this weekend, with an eye on silky smooth and vanishing point. Being the UK the weather of course is unpredictable ;)

Hi Rob,

I've got something in the Dr Seuss challenge but to be honest it's not doing very well!

I'm going on holiday tomorrow for a week and am not sure if I'll have access to an internet connection at the hotel. Either way I'll do my best to find out what the challenges are and will definitely have my camera with me at least for a free study entry.

Other than that I'll be hoping that we make it into the league. I may not know until next sunday! If not I'm up for something informal like you have already suggested until we can get in officially.

Thanks,

Joe

I was thinking at Silky-Smooth but all my ideas are common...I have to find something unusual!

It very hard to think at it because I have now a bigger Challenge: I am one of the lucky persons selected at US Diversity Immigration Visa 2008!

I think this is not a problem for our Team - until further changes in my location...! Any advices, recommendations?

Thanks, Monica, that sounds great, I'm looking forward to it!

League
For the rest of you, from the "League" page:

Originally posted by League:

We need 72 finalized teams by Sunday night . . .

Challenges
Is anyone planning on entering any of upcoming challenges? I'm hoping to shoot for "vanishing point" on Sunday morning, but am not sure the weather is going to cooperate (which it has been steadfastly avoiding doing here all week long). I've been racking my brain for the DPL band thing, but can't come up with anything.

I don't have anything in any of the challenges in the voting stages; does anyone else? Don't post what you've done or might do here (it's public), but do post if you're thinking about doing something or if you're in a current challenge.

Best,

Rob

I didn't read Rob's message - I'll change the logo with "Euro Squadron" and "watch out for"!
05/10/2007 05:33:00 PM · #21
Yes, I hope we'll get in!!! But as Rob sad, we can stay together as a team and have fun.

Thanks for your feedback! I enjoy using Photoshop but I am still learning it... Making logos it's a way to use functions! But please tell me which is the final team name!

What else can we do in order to know each other better?
05/10/2007 05:24:05 PM · #22
Hi Monica,

Looks pretty good to me; can we get it to read "Team Euro" (or maybe "Euro Squadron" as the team name instead, as then the "Euro" part can be first)?

The quotation is actually a real quotation (couldn't find who it was from in a quick search), and it needs an "out" after the "watch" ("watch out for"). Probably no one but me would pick that up, but that's what you get for being on a team with a university lecturer :)

Any other opinions, people?

Logo

It is not what I had in mind but please tell me what do you think! I'll try to make something else...
