i will do that right now, thanks
always looking for anything new

"Edit"
anything song you can recommend?

I think the easiest one to find on the internet might be "Wake Up" and it's a fairly good representation of the album.

Hi Bobster,
I've just seen your bio and realised I didn't need to point out that Birmingham was in England, Sorry.

He's great, I've always been more of a Vai fan though. Having said that, I was just at the right age when Surfing With the Alien came out, and THAT is the album that turned me on to that kind of playing... and the title song was duly learnt note-for-note ASAP!

Without doubt a landmark album, I find he's not quite as frantic as Vai. I was lucky enought o see Satriani on his Extremist tour at Birminghan, England. He truly makes the guitar talk

I like Satriani's videos, and Vai never really seemed to deliver the goods on the G3 videos. However, the Vai Live at the Astoria DVD really is out of this world... I watched it with another guitarist and it really took me back to being a teenager, what a buzz!
Edit... I really wanted to see the G3 tour this year, but it clashed with Glastonbury. Damn!! Glasto was great though...

Hey Sher,
That's so funny to see the Allstars on your list. I used to work for their management company a few years back. They are such a great group of down to earth guys. We also managed their Dad, Jim Dickinson, as a producer. I'm pretty sure they've changed management companies by now and I hope that they soon get the recognition they deserve. Keep listening and spreadin' the NMA word!! :-P

I'm a guitarist and a pianist, so here's some of my desert-island music:
Guitar:
Anything by Steve Vai... I particularly like the Ultrazone CD. Eat em and Smile is good too.
Anything by Joe Pass
Anything by John Scofield

Piano:
Anything by Oscar Peterson
Rachmaninov... everything! But I love the 3rd concerto, the Preludes and the Etudes Tableaux.
Chopin ballades and scherzos.
Anything by Ravel, particularly Gaspard de la Nuit.
Liszt... again everything, but I particularly like the sonata.
Scriabin... all the sonatas. Particularly #10
Bach Goldberg Variations. I particularly like the early Gould recording. I saw Angela Hewitt play this live, and my God it was boring!

Favourite pianist: Marc Andre-Hamelin. Just incredible, especially seeing him play live. Best pianist on the planet!

There are a few "what kind of music" threads, but this one was started by somebody with incredible taste so I thought I'd resurrect this one.

All this to say that "Funeral" by The Arcade Fire is as incredible as people are drooling about.

Congratulations, Montreal, on yet another incredible band!

I visited Montreal this past weekend and the music of The Arcade Fire fits the city so beautifully, it reminded me of how Sigur Ros so perfectly match the images of Iceland I've seen so far...

Just a question to all you DPC'ers from Iceland. I have a couple of Bjork CD's somewhere in my collection. Is she very popular in Iceland?

If you know what that stands for, then you're as pathetic as I am. Being a DJ in the 80s (as a teenager), I was subjected to lots of pop crap, some of it I liked some of it I didn't. (yay to ABC, boo to Wham!)

I wore out my LPs of Dead Milkmen (Big Lizard in my Backyard) and the Repo Man soundtrack in 85 or so.

On the way in to work today I was listening to Garbage, Kidney Thieves, and The Cure (Head on the Door).

What I really like the most at the moment is stuff from and like:

Southern Culture on the Skids (Surf)
Dick Dale (Surf), been at a concert before Pulp Fiction came out. In a small hall, it was great and I am addicted to the sound ever since.
Chopin (classic)
Prokovièv (classic)
The White Stripes

Other CD's, singles and likes:
The Verve
Moloko
Them
Nirvana
Stone Temple Pilots
Shea Seger
Nelly Furtado
The Cardigans
The Corrs
Portishead
Bo Diddley
Elvis Presley
Rolling Stones (early stuff)
Roy Orbison
The Doors
No Doubt
Porno for Pyros
Duran Duran
Lenny Kravitz
Smashing Pumpkins
The Travoltas
REM
Cassius
Daft Punk
Aaliyah
Missy Elliot
Dune
INXS
The Ventures

And loads of other stuff from the fities to present, from pop to rock to classic to dance. But I dont dance and hardly ever listen to the radio. :) I think I like acoustic music with guitars or violins and cellos (live) the most and of course the sound of an electric guitar that has gone through a Fender outboard reverb unit.
