I'll have to check that site out. I'm still debating on creating a site to cure some of the inadequacies of the other sites.

Ok I'm a guy and I'm not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination, but one thing that bothers me with OMP and MM is the number of 'photographers' that seem to be focused on seeing how many models they can talk out of their cloths. I may not be a great photographer, but I do take my photography seriously. It makes me nuts to see so many poorly executed nudes and the same photographers blatantly talking up any model they think they can get nude. I think the popular term in GWC. Nudes are fine, but they need to filter out the hacks collecting nude models like trophies... it makes us all look slimy.
I like solomodels much better, but maybe they filter too much to be useful for those just getting started.

I'm leery of posted ratings simply because it could be used unfairly by both models and photographers. What about allowing models or photogs to send negative matters to the site moderator/host and, if the same photog gets three "creepy" of similar types of feedback (from three different people), they are booted from the site.
There are so many other ways to improve on those two sites. As someone has already said, the navigation on both is terrible. I also believe the forums on such a site should be restricted to the business of photography and even those should be moderated very strictly. I also think that "off topic" should not exist as a forum category.
The search functions should be expanded to include things like TFP/CD as well as location, measurements, etc.
I also think entry to the site should require for both models and photographers at least a basic portfolio of some quality. If someone is really serious about being a model or model photographer, it's not that hard to find a friend to shoot or be shot by.

| I think the ebay style might work. I bet it would p-off some of the photogs, and it would make it harder to get some of the good ones, but I bet that would keep them from being stupid and coming on to the models ect. |

I have to agree that feedback could get yucky E-bay style wouldn't work IMO. Would have to be something different that what I've seen used.
Anonymous rating only woks so well. People with little work under their belts would know pretty much, WHO left the feedback.
Perhaps an online scheduling system with "completed" check boxes next to events with links to photos.

one click local network....
All these sites have a search feature. Enter in the zip code, choose distance click this change that load those ... tedious...
What I am suggestion, is possible a feature where those within say 15-30 miles of zip code are automatically grouped. Not as in you have to be their friends and such. But, as in within the data base where the user can click 'local network' button and those within the distance show up.
Can have it as four levels if you chose, one for stylists, models, photographers, all. May save time for those looking for local talent.?

Problem with this is the liability with incorrect feedback. These always turns into a he said/she said issue. Creepy photographers vs dumbass models with no way to check any of the facts. The site then can be held responsible for lost work because of these situations. |
Yeah, I know. But it sure would be nice. :) What about some kind of anonymous rating system. Like a scale of 1-5. 1 being "Not reliable" or "Wouldn't work with again" and 5 being "Would Highly recommend" or something like that. I would hopw that the numbers would speak for themself. If just one person is doggin' someone then it shouldn't effect them too much. Then again, if they haven't worked with a bunch of folks I could see how it would. I dunno.... I just wish there was a way to do it and be fair about it.

I agree, although I wish it could be done differently. There are a few models on MM that I would love to warn local photgraphers not to waste their time with (as in, flakes who don't show up). But if you gave someone a negative feedback a la Ebay, they would just blast you right back which wouldn't do anybody any good. What I would love to have on MM is a way to send a PM to a group of people at one time. I could contact, say, 10 models that I have already worked with (and can trust to show up) and let them know I'm setting up a shoot for X day and time, and see who can make it. You could either let everyone see who else is on the PM, or you could have the equivalent of a BCC in email. You could then also use it to set up little private forums, in a way. This would be great for photographers in a local area to compare notes on a particular model, discuss local retail stores, etc without posting on a public forum for the whole world to see. MM has a lot of potential, and I've found a lot of great models in my area through it (most of the model shots in my portfolio here are from MM). But if you could improve on some of the issues / suggestions I just made, well, sign me up!

MM has to be one of the slowest sites I've ever been to! And OMP really isn't much better.

Oooh, now we got some ideas flowing. I'm looking for a new pet project. And like most of you, I'm not completely happy with the "model" sites. Hell, I find Myspace more useful and it's not designed for such.

MM and OMP BOTH have incredibly bad, unintuitive navigation. How about Saved Searches? The ability to "turn off" a model in your search if you know it's someone that you don't want to work with. A Don't View Again button I guess. Icons on the thumbnail view that show you what types of compensation they will accept. You could use a dollar sign, a CD and a picture frame. That way you won't have to open up 10 profiles to find one willing to work TFCD. If they want paid gigs, require them to list a base rate. Have that rate appear over the $ when you mouse over it. You could make it optional too.

That's already available on OMP ("Willing to work for:"), though not on MM.
My main complaint about OMP is that it's _such_ a commercial site. You have to pay simply to have an account with the barest set of features. |
