I think this idea has merit. I would say it had to be square instead of saying 5x5, maybe 640x640 or 600x600. Unlike other challenges, the entry, as displayed on a computer screen during voting, would approximate the size of the intended use of the image. And it would be appropriate for a "no edit rules" challenge-- text ok, multiple images ok, digital art ok, just as long as there was at least one digital photographic image used as a starting point. Might even limit the challenge to coverart for music, a concept understood around the world.

You may be dating yourself joannadiva but I hope that doesn't mean that the album cover is outdated as an artform. I remember when album covers were 12x12 and considered high art. They were displayed in exhibitions at the classiest of galleries; collected and sold in expensive coffee table books; and original copies drew really big bucks at auctions (that's Christie's & Sotheby auctions, not eBay, lol). Of course many are overly commercial but there is also a very high level of creativity present. The fact that cover artwork is intended to help sell the product gives it a unique twist. It forces the artist to lean heavily toward inspiring a specific response from the viewer, to make them want to own the music. In a very loose sense, this is parallel to the way challenge rules and topics force our entries to be a certain type of artwork.

Then maybe as those challenges didn't allow editing and text, this one should do.

Lets not beat this dead horse again.

I was thinking a traditional photography challenge with the artistic bent twards imaging an artist, band or web program, and use the 5X5 dementions of a CD Jewel case

I suggested a CD Coverchallenge some time ago too and only one person respond about it.

I think it can be a very funny challenge if the editing is allowed, we have great Photoshoop artist in the site!

I think a product box would be a better challenge. More open for interpretation rather than a CD case.

Editing allowed.

Lets have some fun!

This is a great idea. I was asked to do a cd cover and this would really help.

sounds like fun to me.
I dunno about the editing though.

Fun idea, I like it. Would need to be an "editing allowed" challenge though I think.

oh yeah and of course the title would be the name of the album.... (am I dating myself) the web program or what ever would be included in the jewel case. Use the name of an existing groop, album, artist, Program, Or make something up.
