No need to apologize! It took me about 45 seconds to locate and use that translator, but I was doing it because I was curious and not sure of the "correct answer" myself.

Hmm ... could you call Pig Latin the porcine Romance Language?

When I was a kid, we used to drive past the main United Parcel Service building in San Francisco, complete with 8-foot high letters on the roof, just begging to have the T and the I transposed ....

Uh, would that "only one ENGLISH" be old, middle or modern English? Since I doubt that many in England speak in the language of Chaucer or Shakespeare these days, and since I would suppose (though I'm no linguistics expert) that American English began its "contortions" soon after the time of Shakespeare when the colonies were beginning to grow, that therefore British English is as much a contortion of the "only one ENGLISH" (i.e. Middle English, the point at which they branched) as American English. And, for that matter, it could be said that English in any form is just a massive contortion of a conglomeration of German, Latin, Greek and probably to a lesser extent several other languages.

And by the way, where are all the photography purists who argue that photos should be judged apart from the title altogether? In which case, spelling should be irrelevant.

To quote Owen Russell (orussell) from his sig: Bad spellers of the world untie.

But hey, it's all Greek to me... :)

I just want to say, I have a life other then Dpc. I submit a photo to a challenge and if I have time I will usually make sure everything is correct, but there are those times when I will hold off and say I will come back later to change the title or what ever else I needed to do. Welp, I usually forget and then another thread is made up to put down us procrastinators. Geeeesss...what is up with this world? It's just a words.

I found out he hard way that you can't use any of the formatting codes in the titles either, such as to write your "foreign phrase" in italics, as is the convention in English texts.

I posted an entry in two languages here, without being chastized for it.

Also, there's nothing contorted about American English unless one chooses contortion. Most relevant posts here, really, address proper spelling. I'm sure that any proof reader worth his/her salt recognizes and accepts that whatever the correct spelling is in one language may not be correct in another.

As a Canadian, I have learnt to live with three spelling conventions.

Even after voting they can't be corrected, so I found out. Only if you submit them to DPCPrints, then you can change the title.

Whether the weather is fair or foul, the wether leads his flock ...

And unfortunately, the titles can't be corrected during the voting, even if it's a minor mistake.

I am not hoping to be difficult by posting this, just proper and also pointing out that what you are saying is pretty much unworkable.

To add to your problems, you say why not post in someone's own language. The problem with this is that we have several people who are bilingual meaning that they have to choose a language for each submission, or that they would need to be allowed to post a title in several different languages.

As American English is actually a contortion of proper English as was developed in the United Kingdom long before the American nation started speaking English it is also interesting to see the Americans complaining that people are not speaking proper English, especially that they cannot spell English. I challenge any person who thinks that they know both languages to switch the spelling checker on their word processor to the other language and find out just how different they actually are. I personally would be very annoyed if someone from America decided that I had misspelt my title based on the fact that the American version of English is different to the actual version of English. I am therefore curious how you propose to get around this particular problem?

As I mentioned before, I am not try to be difficult I am merely pointing out that your solution is probably completely unworkable.

In case you are wondering about my own spelling, please don't. My spelling is in fact spot-on, but my grammar and semantics might be way off. This is because I actually use voice recognition software and do not type my own text any more due to a problem of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Mispelled titles have always been one of my biggest pet peeves here until the Halloween challenge when I became guilty of it myself, time was running out...I was not at home but visiting my mom's house and using her computer and rushed to enter before the deadline, I did not double check my spelling, that is how what was intended to be "Spooky Cat" became "Spooly Cat" it drove me absolutely crazy throughout the challenge everytime I saw my title and still does. I always use to assume that it was sheer laziness as well, but having had the shoe on the other foot myself I try not to judge so quickly and try to accept that it was just an honest mistake by an eager participant excited to get there entry in.

No, I'm familiar with alternate spellings. I'm talking about typos and actual misspellings. "calender" for example. I don't want to indicate current challenge goofs, but there are a few.

Now, I'm as guilty as the next guy in typos and spelling things incorrectly from time to time, my point was about it happening in the titles.
