I agree with bood ... B/W is NOT a prerequisite for my voting at all. I do not think B/W would have worked for the image that I entered ... not that it matters as it is gonna have a struggle to keep a 5.0 by the looks of it.
Point being ... in my voting, I voted high for invisible photographer ... I really enjoyed being a fly on a lamp post in this competition and I think it really adds a HUGE amount of impact and emotion and voyeurism to this "genre" ... but ... of course ... that is only MY opinion.
In the end, I voted for impact, candidness, emotion, human interaction, and whether or not I got the feeling of "being there".
Whether with colour or B/W or duo-tone or grain or texture or whatever ... It was not a factor in my voting process. I don't think we should totally conform to the techniques of another (no matter how famous or accomplished or respected as a pioneer) photographer just because we LOVE their work. They certainly did not conform to other photographers of their time, lest they would not have stood out so much.

I'm looking for the spirit of Bresson in terms of a narrative and decisive moments. I think good street photography unlike portraiture is that the photographer is the invisible witness.
Some images are just not suited in black and white and I feel some of the entries have just converted to black and white to give them a more documentary feel. |

I went through about half of the "street challenge" submissions to acquaint myself of the general direction the images follow, and to try to establish the merits to vote on.
There are so many photos with great techniques yielding results that could do great in a "free Study" contest; but to me, in this "street contest", it's the feel the photo gives.
So, I will follow my heart, when I see a photo that is good enough to say: "This can, may or did take place in a street" then it will be the photo for me.
It is very hard to take a street shot, so I will look for ideas and feelings, and overlook techniques and sharp results, unless the photo has both

24 minutes left. I have my camera on a tripod set up in the front yard, hoping that a crowd of people will wander through the neighborhood. (and walk really, really slowly so that the long exposure works.)

I took Taylor with me twice this week - tons of fun but hard to think with all the "mom I wanna...." Today she decided she'd had enough this week and wanted to stay home. I had a great quiet day out alone with my lenses. Really enjoyed this challenge, made try harder than I've tried in a while... hope it doesn't tank! lol

Many consider the lenses the best in the world. also for street photography it makes almost no noise. People pay for quality and the features they want. BTW the 50 1.0 lens is almost $4,000 as well so those that pay end up paying alot |
i was talking to a guy today that was shooting with one of those. i thought it was one of the epson digital rangefinders at first, but when i got up closer i saw it was the leica. he also had a 35mm f/1.4 on it. it was just crazy to think that that guy had almost $10,000 hanging around his neck. i think its sort of crazy that alot of people say that they're among the most rugged cameras made and i don't soubt they are, but i cant imagine that anyone would treat anything that expensive rough at all. i wouldnt, but i guess if you've got it like that... |

| I am in and I am not sure about it at all. I love it and it is my style but that usually doesn't mean good things. I also went against several things that people posted HAD to be in a street photograph. I predict 5.2. |
