I got a laugh out of this one (you'll have to see the title) ...

"IMO, you are correct and my vote reflects that..."

From strange to just unnerving....

Man Raymbo goes a bridge too far!

Like whoa, far out bro.. I was like totally like just thinking that, and like I saw this picture and I was all no way.

One can only dream of being a punk loser (dream achieved)

and another
She does not look tribal, more like playing dress up.

Pretty new to the site, and I have to say that I have been fortunate to have received comments that are helpful to me. I find myself discouraged when I receive no comments, and my scores are all in the 5-ish range. But for those same scores, with comments, I feel like I can improve - I can look at my picture with other eyes, and say, "oh, yeah...I see that."

I just saw this during challenge comment on a rather good photo of someone else's.

"heh. Get a brain"

Now THAT I would call one of the most unhelpful comments I have ever seen.

Lots of times poorly thought-out comments are made by newbies to the site, so I'll often PM them and simply ask them to clear things up. For example I got a ? for a comment. Emailed the sender and politely pointed out that ? didn't really tell me anything. They not only rewrote the comment altogether, making it much more useful and valuable, but also PM'd me too to apologize (!!!) for the original comment.

I have been guilty of the 'good shot' type of comment in the past. Now that I know a little more I try to say something more like 'I like the leading lines' or similar, just so people know why I like or don't like a shot. And yeah, sometimes I do just say 'oof'. It's not a bad thing.

:)
there are only 2 types of comments that I remember I haven't marked as helpful:

the first one was a straight-out "5"
the other one almost shy: "DNMC?"

I like recieveing comments, and I think I've been very very lucky with them so far:) nothing offensive, no non-existent users.

"Cute kid but an action shot would have been even better" (this was in a portrait challenge)

"I've got a shot just like this!!"

"cool"

"yap. that's him" (on a shot titled "Elvis Sighted at Parade!"

"Yeah, nice work"

"Nice job"

"Nice shot."

"Pennsylvania Railroad CHOO CHOO" (on a photo of an old PARR locomotive)

"6"

"Nice Pic."

"chop dpwn some trees" (on a photo of the Philadelphia Museum of Art)

"This is a nice picture"

And the best ever.... from the Rubber Ducky challenge: "quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack !quack ! quaaaaark"

"toilet bowl is dirty"

"another toilet!!"

"attack of the little bushes!"

"I like the photo, but I don't see a different perspective!"

"it's really a beautiful pic, but where is the dramatic effect?"

"Sorry I can't even tell what this is. Regardless there is little technical skill shown here and your subject needs more thought."

"looks like a snapshot"

Here are the ones that were head scratchers for me.

1 - urgh!
2 - Nothing, just a blank space.

Edit to add this one:
3 - I liked the idea of this picture until I saw so many.

I got: "predictable"

And what really got me amused/annoyed was, when I clicked on the page of that user who left it to PM them - I saw they were getting tons of comments on their entry in two back-to-back challenges that were of almost exactly the same object & composition saying "haven't I seen this shot before?" and "can I predict that I'll see this again?".
Do as I say, not as I do :)

George Lucas the director actually said once to his actors when filming a movie: "ok, ok, um.. that was good, but um... yeah... just act... better."
I'm an actor and I think that's really funny, so when I read the above comment, I giggled - he's saying to me "ok, ok, um... that was good, but um... yeah... just be more... creative."

They are no bad comments, it's how "creative" you can be with interpreting them :)

I welcome all comments, and perhaps inappropriately try to mark them all as helpful. My near brown elicited a nice variety, and succeeded in helping me cross some mysterious line into the land of white rookian bliss. (Hopefully not addictive, or as seductive as it has been to someone whose username begins with p).

I got the same comment (well not exactly, some of the words are slightly different) by a user that doesn't exist anymore ...

5. off the fence

4. Harsh lighting. Annoying attitude. 4

3. I don't like the angle this is taken from I'm afraid

2.
which is it. The bird or the sports?

The worst of all time... or best. Depending on how you look at it.

1.
I search the triangle but I find not it (or I read to the title badly )

My favourite recently (I'm not complaining about it, I just find it amusing)

In the minimalism challenge (which was about having a very small subject)

The subject is so small that I can't find it - DNMC

Speaking of hmmm, I got this one recently (after the challenge):
"hmmm maybe 117 out of 705 means someting here"

:)

Not a 'bad' comment by any means, just one of those things that make you go hmmm!

But I just decided to interpret it to mean "Best damn photo I have ever seen in my life! 10! I can die in peace now" and marked it as helpful.

Pretty cool that you did that Ken, 'cause "flott" means great (or cool or any similar adjective). And it was a great shot.

Bonus points if you can guess who left that comment. Hint: look at the length of the comment!

Chilling! I would say who but I know it's the name never to be spoken. LOL

Here's a few more that I will probably go back through and mark anyway:
"dnmc. These are woodies." - in Battle of the Sexes - as if Woodies don't have sex.

"a sillouhette is not a shadow"

"Sorry, I don't understand... are faceless dummies being phased out?"

"hmmmm, I don't quite know what to say about this image, so I won't say anything!" - LOL! This one is from UNCLEBRO (O.P.) - I didn't mark it as helpful cuz it's more of a non-comment. :)

"adobe photoshop, nice, same as me, and prolly many others."

"good image but wasnt the duty to capture an accidental letter in nature?" - obviously I was derelict in my duty. ;-)

Those are both helpful :P

Seriously. Just like I appreciated it when someone told me they were a bit tired of smoke photos.
