Congrats to those brave new site council members. Good luck in your new roles. I hope you don't become so busy you can't keep up with the challenges. or maybe I do.

Jen, what you say is pretty much what I meant. But I don't think it's worth starting a new thread, it's been discussed before (endlessly, some might say :). I just thought I would present the idea once again, this time to the new site council members.

SO, LISTEN UP, YOU GUYS :-)

I don't think it would. It seems to me that the occasional "anything goes" challenge leads to pictures that could be classified as belonging to a Photoshop site (in those challenges), whereas using the tools available to produce better photos would allow us to do exactly that, produce BETTER PHOTOS.

There still could be restrictions, e.g. no text, possible no borders :))), no composites, possibly no adding elements, stuff like that.

The point is that it is sad that we can not use some very good tools to make better photos, and all those here for learning can not learn those techniques, learn to use those tools, because of the restrictions. That is sad.

But, again, I do not think that would turn this into a Photoshop or a digital art site.

Ursula

Sorry, Ursula, I think I misunderstood/misread your first post. You are right about the current 'anything goes' contest. There are some excellent images there but also some filter and PS nightmares (maybe that's where they're getting 'spooky' from?? LOL) Anyway, I thought you were saying allow all editing, but now it sounds like you just want some more flexibility with the rules that we already have...? For example, instead of using layers in normal mode only, allow other modes; allow spot editing; the 'Select Colors' tool, things like that? They all sound good. I would still say no non-rectanglular selections, though.

Sorry for the hijack... Ursula, maybe you could start a thread on your idea? :-)

Congratulations to all the new members of the site council.
alansfreed, kiwiness, eddyg, karmat, mk

I'am sorry I have not responded sooner but I have been busy with remodeling and repairs at home. We have had two contractors working for over a week and they are keeping me busy. I have only been able to visit DPC for short periods lately.

I also wish Gordon and John the best of luck with their new plans.

Hey, I have a GREAT idea for the new member to work on right away, and make into the new "Rules". How about switching the regular rules and the no editing rules? In other words, we could use layers, touch-up, all the other neat things to make your pictures better on a regular basis, and every once in a while we could have a "no editing except for what the old rules allowed" challenge.

How about that? I think EVERYBODY would be very happy with something like this. OK, new council members, go for it.

Ursula

PS - we could use that neat new red flag for the "old rules" :)))

This would be a good idea. No more crappy pictures from me then ;)

Congratulations to the newest members of the Site council. To get you guys started on the right foot, I will put in a DQ for every entry in the "Grace" challenge ;P Just Kidding.

I will applaud all the site council, previous, current for stepping up to help make this site better.

I wonder if those glasses are polarised, so you can use them if you forget your filters?

Rats! I was passed up for another promotion. I didn't make the Site Council cut. I'm sure it's some sort of conspiracy against me.

Anyway, congrats to the newbie councilmembers!

Auto-parse only works on your post contents and does not include your signature. For your signature, you'll need to use forum code.

Thanks - done it

I'd really like a response to my application. Doing it this way is much like entering a challenge and getting no comments.

I am curious about this council. Who else is on the site council? Was there an election? Were there nominations? How does one learn of vacancies? In general, how does this all work? Is there a place that we can go to learn more about the duties, responsibilities, and obligations of the site council?

Details about the Site Council can be found on the About page. The call for new council members was put in the forums a while ago (few weeks, i think), along with a nomination email address/form, and all the current council discussed and voted upon those (self)nominations. Simple really :o)
