Cool, now we can make wheelchair jokes for a little while longer! LoL

Seriously though, it may not have been the outcome you'd hoped for, but it does sound like slow and steady will win the race. Take care.

Somehow I have missed this thread until now. You have been, and will continue to be, in my prayers. As to your visit with the surgeon--while it was not the news you wanted, it seems postitive overall. You now have someone looking out for your best interest, and you have something to work for. I hope just knowing that there is doctor waiting to finish the job helps with the daily chore of the therapy. It is never easy to ask for or accept help (I had to when I had back surgery), but it should be short term and the result is being healthy again.
I look forward to and appreciate your comments on my blogs, and while I don't always have time to comment, I look forward to your daily entries and updates.

Take care, and get stronger soon!

Hang tough, girl!! I will be thinking of you and praying for you during all of this.

It is frustrating, I know, but I'm glad you've got a dr. you feel you can trust.

All good news, just on a somewhat longer timeframe. Thinks and thoughts for you Natalya :)

Natalya - such mixed news! No magic wands, but at least some progress in terms of the alternatives and a better idea as to your timetable. I am sure that the surgeon has your best interests at heart. Good luck with the physio - what doesn't kill you will make you stronger (or something like that!).

It may not be what you were looking for, but I think you have a wise and caring surgeon who's giving you the very best possible course of action. That in itself is a wonderful thing, I'd imagine! Thanks so much for getting back to us, too - I really appreciate it.

I am just back from the hospital and I am going to try my best to explain the outcome.

The surgeon was extremely nice, he spent a long time explaining exactly what surgery I will need and how it will all be done, he even got out a model of the bones in the foot and leg to show me what has happened.

I need some bone removing from from the inside of my left foot and some metal plates attaching to the remaining bone so that the tendon can be pulled down and sewn on to the plate. As things stand at the moment because of the damage to the tendon the arch of my foot has now dropped causing further problems that will need work after surgery. Due to being in the cast for such a long time he also explained there has been some damage done to the tendon and ligaments in my left knee which may or may not require surgery.

Sadly, the good news I wanted didn't happen.

After various blood tests, x-rays, an assessment of my breathing and a general run down of my current health the surgeon has refused to operate on me at the present time. He feels that as I am only 26 the complications that could occur from performing an operation on me at the moment far out way any benefit I would receive.

He also feels that I am physically too weak to handle a general anaesthetic and as I have had complications with this in the past it is just too risky.

So, here's what happens now. I am being sent for a course of extremely intensive physiotherapy in the hope that I can regain some strength in my left leg and to try and rectify the damage done to my knee. I will return to see the surgeon in 3 months, 17th May 2007. At this appointment he will assess how much progress I have made and whether I will need surgery on my knee as well. I will then continue with the physiotherapy until I am able to walk unaided. Once this has been acheived, and as long as there are no other complications in the mean time, he will be happy to take me in and operate. This will probably be towards the end of this year.

I have every confidence in this man, he took the time to listen to me and to explain things to me. His parting words to me were "Miss Jagger, I promise I will not make you wait a day longer than I feel is neccessary. When I see you are fit enough we will take you in straight away".

Patience, determination, strength and willpower are going to continue to play a big part in my day to day life and I WILL get fit and well!

My thanks to each and everyone of you for your thoughts, prayers, love and kindness. I wouldn't be able to make it through the harder days without you all.

Thanks for reading.

Morning Natalya! I hope that you don't have to wait too much longer for the much needed surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery my dear.

BTW how are things out there? We are forcast to get 40 degree weather on Friday night...that is in the tropics which is why 40 degrees down here is such a big deal!

Take care.

Best of luck, Natalya!! If you have any say in the matter whatsoever, I'm sure you can talk the surgeon into doing something sooner rather than later. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I have you in my special thoughts.... the ones I keep for those who are burdened by something. Just hang in there, you obviously have the support of this great family. Their prayers and thoughts carried me and my son on wings of hope and care. They helped us refocussing our values and frames of reference.

Please take good care of yourself... and keep us posted.

Hi Talj, I've only recently joined and have just picked up this thread today but as I've said in another posting, I am so touched by all the caring, loving and thoughful members on DPC who are always there to provide support for others in need.
I was in a similar situation to you in 2002 following a serious motor vehicle accident which resulted in a broken back and months of recuperation. I too found it very difficult to rely on others for my daily needs (I could not even go to the toilet on my own) but believe me, those around you would go to the ends of the earth to help you in any way possible, even if it's just to make you a cup of tea. It is hard for them to stand by and watch you going through what you are and it means a lot to them to know that they are doing something positive for you, no matter how small. So don't be stubborn (lol) and save your strength to heal your body. Good luck with your foot and like everyone else, I will be thinking of you and praying for good health once more.

At 2.45pm today (Tuesday 13th February) I have an appointment with the surgeon who is to operate on my foot. For a little more information about my leg CLICK HERE!

In short I have been in this...

for 19 months and I am hoping today that the surgeon will not place me on a waiting list for surgery (which is 6 months +) but that he will get me seen and operated on as soon as possible.

I just want to ask for your thoughts and prayers this afternoon, I could really do with all the help I can get.

Thank you all for reading XX
