I'm not familier with the Tamron 28-80 you mentioned, but wonder if you meant the 28-75, with the constant F/2.8? That's the one I'd reccomend, if you want a great walk-around lens. I love mine, as do many others here. Not too pricy, worth a look. And yes, do go to a show and pop it on the camera for a test, see how you like it in your hands. |
THIS is the one I have now. It's okay, but I'd like something a little faster and with a little better minimum focus distance. Still looking around, but the 28-75 is one I have considered. |

you'll have fun with the 50mm 1.8. It was one of my 1st too, and still one that I fall back to on a fairly regular basis. The af on it though has recently started to not work (most of the time)... I probably should have kept the box/reciept.
Have Fun and those deliveries can never be fast enough can they!! I'm so impatient... |

You just cannot go wrong with the 50/1.8. As far as bang for the buck, it's unequaled. |

I'm not really happy with the lenses I currently have, but still being on a very limited budget it's been difficult to know what to do next.
I decided to start small, with the inexpensive but fairly highly regarded 1.8 50mm Canon basic lens. I ordered it today and hopefully will receive it before the weekend. (fingers crossed.)
I had been looking to replace my Tamron 28-80, but I really think I want to go to a good camera shop and try out some lenses that way before I take the plunge. The closest one is down in Cincinnati so I will have to plan a drive down there soon.
My biggest fear in photography is dropping a lot of money on something that doesn't meet my expectations! This stuff ain't cheap. I knew when I bought my 10D used with the lenses that came with it, that these weren't the highest quality lenses (nor the lowest) so I can't say I've been "disappointed" with them.
They have allowed me to get my feet wet in terms of using a digital SLR, and begin to decide what type of photography matters most to me (therefore, what kind of lenses will be most important.) I tend to take a lot of people shots, and I'm hoping the one I just ordered will be good for that. :)
Hurry up mail!
