Quite an improvement, bear. Is that a plug-in? Is it legal in basic?

Yup, a plug-in. Yup, it's legal.

R.

Edit to add: Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if any ruling has ever been made on it in basic editing. I can't see offhand why it wouldn't be legal, though. I don't use it very often, it's my "rescue tool" for slightly OOF images I want to save. My challenge entries haven't had that problem so far. There's actually one I wish I'd used it on, but I did that before I had it.

That's a fantastic pose, no question about it. Here's the same image goosed a little with a nifty third-party plugin called "focus magic":

I want to express my gratitude to all of you that commented on my entry in Color on Color. I had taken a lot of shots of this little mantis and was quite surprised to find this shot on my card. It was captured during a blast of exposures with my 20D. I knew it was out of focus and would not do well because of that, but I also felt that it was an award winning pose. so I had to enter it just to see what would happen.
Flawed as it is I feel it did quite well.
Thank you all.

Also this is the outake that I would have entered. Just wanted you to see what a poser she was. My grandaughter helped keep her rounded up during the shoot, but finally the inevitable escape took place.

Enjoy
