Yup, that is it IMHO. The selection of a certain part of the image for adjustment is illegal in basic editing; making the same adjustment to the entire canvas ( by using the hue/sat adjustment) is OK.

when you replace color it makes a selection of color- that would be illegal. when you use it you can see the lines or 'dancing ants' that select the color.

Thanks every body fopr the reply.

I was talking about the following feature/menu item in photoshop CS2
Image > Adjustments > Replace colour

I went through the rules and it is very minimal.
I am confused. On one hand this effect seems applied to the whole of image and then again it will apply to only parts where the colour is.

Changing colors by hue is legal. More info on what effect you are after?

I believe no because you are selecting a color. you can try selective color which might work well...

edit- that does sound weird but I know selective color is acceptable.

Well if it were me I'd start here.

You'll have to be a little more specific as to what it is you are doing...but my first answer is nope.

Is replace colour in photoshop allowed for basic editing ?
