i dont think there is any good solutions to outside lightening photography. if you can set your camera up in your car with the window down.. i suppose that would work.

Here are mine from this month:

I am always taking mine from my front porch for the cover it provides, but I'd honestly like to get out some time, set up with a better foreground, such as a local lake or river in the valley floor. Any ideas from anyone on how to accomplish that without sacrificing too much safety?

Very nice pictures! I also started taking pictures of lightning last season. I can't use a normal digital camera because the lightinig strikes are mostly very close by (40 - 320 meters!), which is extreamly dangerous. So I use a camcorder, which get's left outside filming when we get lightning strikes close by.

Yeah the storm got a bit to close and i was nearly drenched when i finished packing up my gear.

it just so happened that i had enough light to use a 30 sec timer (max) on my camera. but a remote with a bulb function would be great for these kinda shots. shoot from inside the car :)
