I can't imagine that DPC would charge you anyway. You are like the mascot for DPC University.

Awww thanks...but alas...this mascot has to pay just like everyone else.

I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

That's just doing it for a different kind of reward. People, religious or not, always have some sort of motive for their actions. Even if that motive is only to make them feel like they did something nice and maybe lift their mood a little.

Edit: I happen to agree with this form of generosity. I agree with any form of generosity though. Keep it up.

I agree with this 100%...but I don't feel that I'm doing anything of great importance...just helping a fellow photographer out with the chance to learn more...and like I said in my above post...I feel I needed to post to see who really wants it...don't want people to think badly of me...if that is going to happen then just lock this thread too.

I think this is a great gesture, that's number one.

But what I do want to ask you, pure curiousity, why wait 'till you get in top 10? To stimulate yourself to get an entry in the top 10?
If so: great job!

Well I did not do this to get people to like me...as my first thread I was trying to be a bit funny stating as soon as I get to a 100 favs then I would give a membership away...but people thought I was fishing for favs...which I really wasn't...just poking fun at it all but still going to give something away. I asked for that thread to be locked and started this one because it is my goal and actually something no one can help with because they don't know what my photo is in the challenge...I thought I had figured out a good way of doing this without drawing bad attention...which I guess I messed up again. I do agree that people shouldn't do good things and then turn around and tell everyone...I post because I want to see who, registered user, would want to participate...because some do not. Once I reach my goal I will choose from the people who have commented in this thread and that is the main reason why I felt I needed to post...not for people to give me a pat on the back...I love being a member and want to pass that to someone else...but I want to give it that wants to receive it...so once again I am sorry if I offended anyone...but this thread is not for you...it's for that small list of registered users that want something more from the site...and maybe can't afford it...some of the younger ones might have a problem with that. So...if you want to be added to the list please just ask...and if you don't...don't...no harm no foul.

My exact point Harv. You chose not to say anything and that's your prerogative. Tom opted to do it in a different manner of which we should all support and respect.

Nothing. I never mentioned anything was wrong with it :)

Tom, I admire your generosity. But I don't like the manner in which you choose to dispense it. Same goes for some of the others who have offered free memberships, I'm not intending to single you out.

It just strikes me that some of these offers are intended to focus attention on the giver, or on encouraging the community to help the giver attain some goal that requires input from the community. The process of selecting a beneficiary before the goal is reached seems like you are putting the cart before the horse.

Why not offer the prize without basing it on something that is centered around you? Here's a rough draft suggestion - "I, TomFoolery, will pay for a one year membership for the next registered user with 20 or more challenges under their belt who places in the top ten."

As always, just my two cents.

Generosity is simply that - generosity. If someone brings attention to them, by all means do so. Everyone has a different way of doing things. If Tom wants to do it this way, we should just sit back and watch who will benefit from his act.

When will we see your generosity Harv?

:)

I never knew generosity was such an issue. Who cares really if it draws attention to ones self or not. To me the giving is the part that should be appreciated who cares what the motivation is.

37 billion dollars given by Warren Buffett made national news and he is giving it to another Rich Guy should I think less of the gift because of all the publicity? I think not.

Again just my $.02

Anybody who writes here that they're going to give away a membership is calling some attention to themselves already. I don't see what problem there is in selecting a beneficiary before the goal is reached. (Anyway, I think he actually said that he will select a winner after his goal is met). Yes, from his 6:33 pm post on 7/20:
Edit...I can only afford one free membership right now...but will figure outsome kind of test to see who wins this round...when I reach my goal...hopefully in a couple of weeks...haha
