There's also Leo Carillo Ranch (City of Carlsbad). It's an old historic ranch once owned by actor, Leo Carillo. Lot's of older California architecture and lovely spots for portraits. There's even a collection of peacocks - including a couple of albinos. Here's a link.
Also the Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas is now called the San Diego Botanical Gardens.

One really good place is in Carlsbad at the little park on the corner of Palomar Airport Road and Owens Avenue. It has a little waterfall and small pond, a little wooden bridge, trees, and some small rock formations.
People use it for wedding pictures, prom photos, etc. I have been going there for years. |

Is Buddy Todd the park on Mesa Dr. overlooking the valley? Can't seem to remember.

| Buddy Todd Park in Oceanside isn't a bad little spot for photos. Also San Luis Rey river bed off College and North River Rd. has some pretty nice spots. |

You're finding all the same places I used to go with my camera. Quail Gardens is pretty nice. I should dig out some of my old negs. Also, I worked on Palomar Airport Road for a number of years and am familiar with the renoculas (sp?). Pretty awesome when in bloom. Balboa park was always my favorite place to go and shoot. Very interesting architecture, unusual poeple, botanical gardens etc. Some excellent photo ops there.
I'm living in gods country now. I moved to Port Angeles WA 7 years ago and loving it. The main entrance to the Olympic National Park in here in town. My job keeps me so busy that I havn't had a lot of time to shoot, but plan to soon. I'll post some of my images when I can.
Anyway, happy shootong.

Head down south just a bit to encinitas and Quail Botanical Gardens (off Encinitas Blvd)... 8 bucks to get in but there are a lot of different backgrounds you can shoot in.
There is a a couple of waterfalls, a Gazeebo, Pond with Lily pads... Cactus garden, Bamboo grove, Nice little lookout point and don't skip the kids area as there is some really fun stuff there.
I was there last weekend with the SDdSLR photogroup and the recent rains have everything in bloom. Nice and green lots of water in the little river.

ED: Also the Carlsbad flower fields are in bloom...I was going to head there today but some other things came up...but there is always tomorrow.

| Oceanside harbor was always one of my favorite places to shoot. I spent many hours there. I visited Oceanside last year and couldn't believe the changes. I almost didn't recognize the place! |

Yeah, Mission san Luis Rey is a great spot. I think you've got a relatively new train station there with some pretty interesting trellises and other architectural details. Also the public has access to Camp Pendleton, and the back country there is quite lovely in the spring; check it out. Oceanside Harbor is a thriving place, and telephoto portraits with shallow DOF could be interesting there.
