wow insanely good. i love the one with the man and the hyena and the young boy letting the water from the shower splash in his face and the ballerinas. i would love to go to a ballet school sometime and shoot... i just love the artsy and somewhat sad emotions ballet evokes.
thanks so much for link!!! more images to inspire me!!!! :) :) can never get enough of that!

Maybe thats why I do better with photojournalism then I do with DPC voters. Can you find a way in your wisdom to change the voters, I might actually have a chance if you did!

Very important. With photojournalism the content takes precedence above all.
These are great images, though ones I don't know would necessarily do well on DPC. Anyways, I love looking at this type of thing.
As a photojournalist myself I think it's very important for these stories to be told.
As an example for people, on my personal day to day assignments I am often photographing upbeat community stories and people....but the strong emotion that is present in these images is often not present in the happy daily assignment. I think you will find that happy images can sometimes win awards, if they are powerful enough. |

Indeed, i remember that after visiting the World press Photo exposition i posted a post about tilted horisons, and how in DPC so many people find the need to see them straight.. sily IMHO |

Wow, dude had a hyena on a chain. I see harsh images frequently - but that is something odd and scary indeed.

| Just got to go see the exhibit in Toronto. Its free at the BCE place, so if you get a chance to go, I'd highly recomend it. Seeing the rather large prints was an amazing experience. |

Well, in someway you are right, but when Iraqui civilians are dying, because some people feel safe to bomb them with the bravery of being out of range, I think, one can expect to see the results of those attacks...yes, this is sad, but that is a part of reality, hopefully, we are able to see how foolish human beings can be sometimes.
I am sure there are many pictures featuring hope and happiness...Men want good and men want bad. Life is a balance.

The images are great, very graphic and strong.
I consider myself a total beginner, but I didn't like the winning picture as much as many others there.
I thought the eyes were way too close to the top and the out of focus hand in the foreground kinda bugs me.. but like I said, what do I know. These guys are the best of the best.
One thing I noticed is that pretty much every single picture (and this goes across through all the years) is in a way depresing, telling horror stories, pain, suffering.
I know it's the worlds press photos, so hence.. press.. but that's just one of those things that all in all I'm dissapointed as a human being. Only the dramacic, bad news get recorded and count. There is a lot of bad stuff going on around the world. And I think it should be recorded so that hopefully the people that have the power to do things can do it. But there are also good things. I would have loved to have seen a guy crossing the 100m line (but not in the sports section), some kind of peaceful act.. instead of so much suffering.
It kind of makes me sad that that's what sells the most. That people would rather see suffering that joy.
Anyway.. just rambling

Thanks a lot for the link. That is the kind of pictures that I enjoy a lot. That is what I called spontaneous shooting, no art, just action and the action is just perfectly captured, that is definitely photography.

I always love looking at and admiring other people's pictures to gain knowledge. Some of these press photos are fantastic!
