I'm with ya. Why would you sell your work for pennys. Just did my first real shoot, senior prom pictures for 3 couples, made over $500 first time out....I guess to each there own...just my opinion....thread to ignore. (will check back to see how bad I get beat up).....ace

I'm just getting started with stock and my portfolio is small. Which are the agencies that do not have an exclusivity policy? I apologize if this has been covered.

I know when I submitted my photos in Feb, there was a check box for me to select to say that I am taking advantage of the Feb Special, but I don't see anything in my account either about the money. However, I think they stated a date by which they would make the payout. I am suspecting that it is any day now. I took advantage of the special in Jan. and they added that money to my account on Feb. 9.

I am new to microstok - about 3 motnhs, but so far I am pleased with the results. I don't have a lot of photos posted yet, but as I add more, my downloads seem to increase proportionally. I expect this so be a nice side income for me in a year from now )it will take me that long to get my portfolio to a 1000 pictures). I am with the following sites:

iStockPhoto
Dreamstime
Big Stock Photo
123 Royalty Free Fotolia

I just barely got accepted by ShutterStock, but it is fast becoming my best seller. I highly recommend this site.

123 Royalty Free started well for me but has dropped off a lot lately. They also require 6 MP files.

Fotolia is just getting started for me. Things are still pretty slow but picking up. I think it is an up and comer though. They have spent a lot of money growing their site and providing other promotions.

Dreamstime was slow for me at the start, but seems to be picking up a lot.

Big Stock Photo is slow and steady for me. I like how easy it is to work with them.

iStock is also slow and steady. Many report great success with this site. I have eitehr not reached that point yet, or my pictures don't match what the designers on the site want. I think it will work out though.

All of these have been good to work with for me. Each seems to have its pros and cons. I hope that helps a bit.

The other one has a better title, but I guess this one is about just making money, not neccesarily about micro stocks.

I have been making about $5.00 / picture/ year on what I have uploaded at the various micro stock agencies. However, the big 4 bring in basically all the income. They are

Shutterstock
Fotolia
Dreamstime
Can Stock Photo
Istock,

Ok, well that was 5. Fotolia is actually getting pretty good, they also offer a 20 cent payment for every accepted file which is a pretty good offer.

Anyhow, so if you have 100 images accept that means (according to my figures) that you would make about $500/year. 1000 images would be $5000 images per year.. and so on.

I have slightly over 100 images on various sites and have almost made back 1/2 of the price of my dSLR. Most images were taken with 3 megapixel cameras, so it's been worth it.
