Oh, just wait. I guess you haven't found dailyawards.com or betterphoto.com. Or votobooth or fotofight. :)

How is this back on topic? The topic isn't about his activity at DPC but of the two sites being similar.

Dude, you wrote this three years ago? Are you sure you didn't steal the idea from one of our variety of 7-11 convenience marts in South Georgia, called Time Savers? They've been in business alot longer than that! :}

I notice the Infamous RIKKI is posting there at the moment might be worth keeping that in mind

Well I think there should be some sort of showdown, shootout, gangfight, rumble, or something. If for no other reason but to add more drama and excitement to this place. Let's be careful what weapons we bring - we know they'll be copying us. For those of you with dual memberships, you'll be expected to beat yourselves up.

Regarding "dual citizenship", there are a LOT of DPCers over there that I recognize, and probably more that I don't. I'm a member there myself, though I rarely participate anymore. For me DPC like a well-worn slipper, it's comfortable. I'm referring to the social arena in particular. I can navigate more easily here, and so forth. Still, I've got 6 hall-of-fame images there, 290-some "awards", whatever. It's not a lot by their standards.

Here's two other big-time DPC ribbon winners that are pretty successful there: Goodman and Joey Lawrence. Those names pop right to mind.

What's my point? It's a good site run by good people with an active membership that has evolved into something very different from DPC, after having started out very similar. Paradigm has put a lot of work into it, and he's doing a good job.

To whatever extent "we" get involved in bashing "them" we look like truculent fools, if you want my opinion. This whole "Rikki is copying!" thing got way out of hand, as far as I'm concerned. I kinda wish everyone would just let everyone else the heck alone and let them go on about their business.

R.

The original topic of this thread was about a site that was similar to DPC. Somehow we've veered a bit off-topic and are talking about a specific user of that site.

While wandering discussion isn't necessarily bad, we've received numerous reports of "vigilante justice" -- both public and personal harassment of a particular person.

Just a reminder: cyberstalking is not cool.

You're right. Life is full of choices. Just sad that people "choose" to pick on JUST the defenseless.

No effort was made to change much of anything at all. Is this *stealing*? No.. not by any true definition. Enough leeway was made to keep it out of the realm of true theft.

However, these photos, when compared with the originals, and given the fact that exact titles were also used, leaves a little bit of a foul taste in my mouth.

However, this is something the photographer has decided they can live with, and, as many others have pointed out, that they can live with defending. That's their choice. Personally, I think it's shameful.

Hypothetical: I write a book. Let's say it's about a boy named Tom.. Sawyer. Set in the 1800s. Does some things like getting out of chores, sneaking into caves, being a general pain in the ass.. has adventures. I shall title this book... The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. A book very much .. indeed almost identical.. to a book written by one Mark Twain. Only maybe my Tom is a year older than Twain's Tom. That makes it different. Now I set out to publish this book, and.. what's this? I can't? But it's different.. *I* wrote it. It's *my* effort. I even changed the age of the main character!

You think any publisher is going to touch that with a ten foot pole?

However, if I wrote a book about a young boy named Tim Saver.. set in the Northwest, that had adventures similar to young Tom, but different.. and titled it something else.. Tim Saver and the Magic Cave.. or something... well, I took an idea and made it my own.

See the difference?

Probably not.

In the end, you have to decide for yourself what you can live with defending.

You've got to be kidding me. He didn't sell any of the photos in question so your book example makes zero sense. Fact is MANY here are just as guilty of the exact same thing that Rikki did. You can look no further than this thread that shows one of many examples of that happening here at DPC. Funny when I asked why there wasn't outrage over that other DPCer doing the same not one person said a word. Perhaps because the REAL issue here has nothing to do with copying ideas and everything to do about harassing Rikki. Seems to me Rikki is getting the last laugh in all of this. When he got banned it was like a spotlight cast upon the rest of us and what is showing ain't pretty.

Edited for clarity.

How about McDonald's? Then came Burger King, Hardee's Wendy's, Arby's...

Bottom Line: We are a world full of lemmings who demand that everyone follow the Lemming Religion.
