i just noticed sue suemack's excellent image in flickr sue in flickr and followed a link which brought me to his thead ..
a few days ago i created this image using flaming pear/flexify filter but was wanting to improve the effect and do more with the idea, but found the filter a bit limiting ..

so its amazingly good timing coming on this thread now ..
thankyou kavita Kavey for the info .. it will be heaps better creating the circles using the methods here brilliant days amazing circles .. :)

later .. edit to say .. brilliant days/amazing circles tutorial works great on flowers and probably a heap of other stuff, but its not working for me on insects shots .. too much distortion of the subject .. :)

David, here's the very early post explaining them:

My friend passed this link on to me and I created an action for it:

The action is just the three steps - filter distort polar to rectangular, transform rotate 180 degrees and filter distort polar the other way...

Then to run it you select an image, marquee select a square selection using the SHIFT key and run the action. If you like what you see, copy and paste it into a new image. If not, revert the image and select a different square and go again!
