If only I ever got such an oppurtunity..

I was counting on my closeness to the birds to count for something. :P Oh well.

I don't know if I'm easily impressed or something but these photos would be on the verge of a 10 for me in the 'beverage' challenge...I love the idea of the last one with the background all boke'd out but the composition is off just a tiny bit and you're a little too loose...otherwise I absolutely love these photos.

Great work!

Edited to add (because Setzler's got me thinking)...the photos make me feel like I'm seeing something I shouldn't normally be privy to. Almost like I'm peeking through the wardrobe door into Narnia. These birds are just beautiful and to see them 'in community' is really heartwarming in a weird way...

We use sugar water at the house also. But I have only seen one.

In my photos from my friend's cottage, they were using sugar water. It wasn't attracting more than one at a time while I sat there, but they came once in a while.

Here we are..

I'll just link to them, as I don't have a portfolio.

Clicky

At my friend's cottage, I sat in a chair, getting a tan/burn (I didn't care for one, I just wanted hummingbird pictures.) and waited for them to come. Their darned dog kept scaring them away though.

Do you mindif I upload and share some (probably just one) of my hummingbird photos? Nowhere near as impressive as your 7, just single birds, but kind of close up.. ish.

Man am I jealous! I put up a hummingbird feeder a month ago. Saw one hummingbird come take a look, and then left. But I started noticing a steady stream of bees visiting, so I took it down.

So I've looked up what kind of flowers attract them, and we are planting them next year.

Funny story: I was shooting some Freeman Patterson style shots in the backyard a couple of days ago, and taking a pic of one of our bushes with flowers on it, and I saw something dart by out of the corner of my eye. I thought--wow, a dragonfly, so I looked up from the shot I was composing, and there, hovering above the bush (which is taller than I am by a 6-12", looking me right in the eyes, was a hummingbird! I was so floored looking at it from such close range, I was afraid to lift my camera for a shot so I didn't scare him away! Of course, then he left and I didn't get a shot of him. So we definitely have some of them here, just need to get them interested in coming by my office window (home office).

Hummingbirds growl, btw.

I stood today at my mom's for I don't know how long waiting for the crazy things to take a quick drink. Never got any. :(

These shots are awesome, though.

Very nice!! Here's my "7 hummer" shot but you have to really look close to see the 7th.

How fast on the shutter to freeze them?

The image is not very good but I never captured 7 at a time before.

It was getting dark
