A little recreational argumentation is good for the creative spirit.
That said, what a curious thread to revive....

Hey, I thought everyone in your house put the seat down. How did the guys fall in? Was it you who left the seat up just to see what would happen???

If you don't put everything down before you flush, it doesn't matter if your toothbrush falls in or not -- "aerosolized pathogens" is the operative phrase here.

[quote=GoldBerry] I've had this quirky sense for a while now that whether or not a man puts the seat down says a lot about his character..am yet to be wrong.

Naaaa, it's not about his character....A) He's tired from all the yapping. So he makes sure it's down before leaving. B) He's afraid that he won't get laid....so, he's being a good boy so he can get rewarded....man you women have power over a silly toilet seat issue....:)

Bugs me sometimes that women never put the toilet seat back up, what happens if we wake up in the middle of the night and go pee, and it splashes off the seat and goes all over the floor. We can slip and break our necks! You are putting us in danger.

It doesn't matter if the seat is up or not..you all piss all over the place anyway. LOL

I had to pee so badly once during a track meet that I actually was wondering if I would be able to pull this off (probably not all too seriously, though).. LOL.. of course, I didn't.

..Hey, give me a break - I was in 5th grade at the time!

Of course I would do it now.. jk :P

p.s. mine is in a case inside the cabinet. hahaha

hate to break it to you, but my husband did the same study in micro lab, and ever a toothbrush straight out of the package that had never been in the bathrrom had trace amounts of fecal matter.

and who cares? It is these trace amounts of bacteria that ensure we have an immune system.

I did the same experiment also. Fecal coliforms, in all their glory, are everywhere. Think about the soda cans we open yada yada yada. When I did my experiemnt we had to make our own M-FC medium b/c we were so ghetto, but it made me learn alot. Hell, I've made so much of that crap I still have the numbers memorized....
biosate 10g
polypeptone 5g
NaCl 5 or 10g
lactose 14g
bile salts no.3 1.5g
aniline blue 0.2g (i think)

sorry hun, you didnt break anything new to me. ive been published 5 times, with one article pending, in national and international peer-reviewed journals and one paper was in the Annals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials and the other in the Journal of Microbiological Methods. So, as my grandfather says..."He's well read". well, off to bed i go....too long of a day for me.

p.s. its not really the bacteria that insures we have an immune system, it is our nervous system that allows our immune system to respond to the presence of these little critters.

edit: sorry, we need spell check on this thing;)

No idea how people like you can muster the will to go outside at all... you must obviously never think about what sort of matter you're inhaling in a city street, or within a mile of any farm, or what exactly you're drinking when you buy a cup of coffee...

I really never do think about that stuff, I grew up on a farm in North Georgia. We had...at one time...60 head of cattle, couple of pigs, 2 chicken houses and a hen house. To be honest I have my toothbrush in the cabinet b/c I'm in a tiny apt. off Peachtree Street in Downtown Atlanta and I dont have much room on my counter for much. :)

p.s. The germ theory is just that....a theory. If noone agrees think about it few hours and then get back with me.

Apparently, it is ok to brush with urine, however...very sterile, I hear.
:p

Kadi....only non-pathological urine is sterile.

Two of the best sentences I have read in any of these forums!

Oh, my side hurts from laughing.

P.S. Sonifo, you just made it into my journal.

I can't believe this happened. I went to the park with my kids this evening and as the sun went down there was this guy walking the bike path..I noticed something squirting out by his waste..of course he was walking away from me so I looked harder and seen he was peeing as he was walking. LOL..some guys think they have it all. I wish I could pee and walk at the same time. I could save so much precious time.

I watched that episode and their methodology was all screwed up. They had each toothbrush in it's own holder. Rinsed them with sterile water. Both very good things, However, if you watched the show and payed real close attention you'd have noticed that they used the SAME TOOTHPASTE TUBE FOR ALL THE TOOTHBRUSHES!!! Yes, they wiped the head of the toothpaste tube on each and every toothbrush (including the "control" toothbrushes). That' is why all of their toothbrushes had the same amount of fecal matter. Then of course...had they actually tested the toothbrushes before the experiment we could have found out what the fecal matter content was before the experiment. Just having the outcome of an experiment doesn't mean we have the right outcome. For all we know the toothbrushes STARTED OUT WITH THE FECAL MATTER ON THEM!!!

As for the seat up or down. I'd rather not touch the underside of the seat to either lift or set it down. I just sit for everything (except if there is a urinal available.

Also for those Country Fans, has you heard the new Brian Paisley song "Ode to Toilet"? I think it handles the subject just fine.
note: "Ode to Toilet" is on the bonus disc that comes with his new album from Target.

edit: corrected country name

Fair enough...My apologies.

I thought it was cowardly to be so accusatory in a private message so I was calling out the sender. Those comments wouldn't have been accepted in the forums so they were sent to me privately...lame.

This is a friggin' discussion about toilet seats! But you are correct, General...thanks for being the 'cooler head'.

Kadis right

Us women, we're a lot like cats that are litter trained but choose to do thier business on your pillow.
We are perfectly capable of putting down the seat and we normally do check (half asleep in the middle of the night doesnt just happen to 5y/os) but quite frankly, we would much rather make men squirm and comply than do it ourselves. Why should we make the effort when someone else can do it for us? (Cat owners know this attitude all too well).
