Please click through to this updated primer on using Curves -- I have been using this technique (although mostly in CMYK mode, not LAB color) since my company got a scanner around 1990. I find it not only more effective but more intuitive than the Levels command. |

and then if this Photo workflow doesn't cover everything you ever need for 'straight' photography - then let me know what you need!

I love Paint Shop Pro 7. I use it for all my photos. However, I recently purchased Photoshop 7. I'm a bit overwhelmed right now. Looks like I'm going to have to spend a bit of time learning it. Any good sites out there with handy tips to speed up my learning process? Thanks.

I use PSP, and am fairly well pleased with it. I have wondered about quality issues after it has been saved, but nothing major. I would strongly recommend it to someone on a limited budget, but wanting something for post processing.

Not to slight Photoshop (PS) but has anyone tried (PSP) Paint Shop Pro from Jasc Software? I have found that it supports almost every effect and plug-in that is created for PS. It also has some very useful tools for photo adjustments and supports pressure sensitive tablets as well. The best part is it's only $99 regular price.

I got mine today.
Install it no problem. FULL version. The box says "UPGRADE" but it's a full version installation. The CD key itself also doesn't say anything about an upgrade (which it usually does for upgrades).
Sweet. $300 :-) Congrats to those who took a chance.

Well, the worse case is taht you will need Adobe Elements for the "upgrade". But that would still save you money because elements are selling for about $80 on EBay and $380 versus $600 is still a good deal.

One of the guys here at work also purchased PS7 for his home use with no problems for the $299 price -- just in case you're considering the purchase.

Has anyone had trouble getting a purchase through?? I just tried to purchase it and got a "...sorry this service is unavailable due to technical difficulties... we are working to correct the problem..." .
Update: Adobe back online, purchase went through no problem. I spoke with customer service who told me that you had to have a "special code" that was received through direct mailings to "some" customers, but that appears NOT to be true, as I tried to buy anyway, and it worked.

I'm gonna have to consider buying Photoshop... I have Photoshop Elements and that works very well for almost everything I need to do...
I would like to be able to do some duotoning and quadtoning. Elements does not have these features and i do not know how to do them manually... I guess I need to experiment some :)

No restrictions. It was apparently a mistake, but Adobe are honoring it until tomorrow.
Discussion here , but it seems from the people who called Adobe,
it is legit, without any catches and the full, unrestricted version.
There was some discussion that it was only an upgrade option for Photoshop Elements owners. I guess you could check with Adobe if
you are interested.
