If the challenge had been only a couple weeks earlier, I probably would have submitted this:

Sadly, it's an hour and a half drive to get out to where she is, and she only plays late evening on work days, so I didn't get a chance to re-shoot for the challenge.

Who is that btw, has a Kurt Cobain look going on..

Thank you very much Tim. The photo is of Even Johansen, the lead singer in the norwegian band Magnet.

I like everything about it. Nice focus, light DOF. Very interesting subject, and yes it does meet the challenge.

Pretty cool, actually.

He played Hotel California while I was there. I was floored.

Like it a lot. :) In the end I had eight pictures to choose from, unfortunately I already deleted the ones I did not submit. ;\ Still think I chose the best, though, and I think I'm going to score better than ever before in dpchallenge.

I discarted this one not respecting basic edition rules. But I like this more than my submission. Your thoughts?

I like stepping outside the box. Was considering this shot, but no band in it, trying to give the impression of live music. Would had gotten killed.

I wasn't sure what you folks would think of this. So I chose something "safe", instead of this one.

What do you think?

I didn't enter this challenge, since there so many tight crops. How would this shot have done. ? (not an outake since I didn't enter)

Thank you for your comment Lori. Really nice to compare comments on this and the one I ended up submitting. I'm now quite sure more people would have felt this described "Live Music" better.

That's a strongly composed shot, but I'm not keen on his expression. It's ever so slightly overexposed. Nice backlighting on the hair though. I think it's a mistake to only include a tiny bit of the hand, it should have been cropped out. The background works very well. Love the shallow dof... one day I'll have a full frame DSLR! It would have been one of the strongest shots in this challenge though.

Thank you for the critique Bob, I do very much agree with you. I actually didn't think about the hand bit before, as I was more focused on the guitar and his eyes.

The DoF comes from f2.8 at 200mm (1/1000s, iso 250).

Yet another reason as to why it's great submitting photos here. It really gives you great feedback on how to think more about your photos and greatly improve them.

I feel that I as a photographer spends too little time actually looking at and analyzing my photos - which is one thing I hope to change by joining these challenges.

I think a lot of us had. I certainly had a lot to choose from, and also think I should have chosen another one.. but that's a part of the contest - to find out how you best display the subject with a photograph. It needs not only be a photo that evokes the feeling in the photographer, but also in the viewers (which I personally should have thought more about before submitting ;-).

Here's another one I considered submitting;
