David,
I'm so sorry to hear of your terrible loss. It's parent's worst fear, losing a child, and a child's worst nightmare, losing a parent. My heart goes out to you and your family in this time of grief.

As a father, hearing of such things scares me, my initial reaction was to let this thread go by without saying a word, to pretend that such things don't happen, but they do, and ignorance is no defence.

My thoughts are with you and your family in what must be a very difficult time.

Deepest sympathies,

Darren

He was just 38. I was 38 nearly 20 years ago. I've just been thinking back over all that's happened for me, and for my family during those years that Mark is not going to have, and my heart aches for him, for his own family, and for you. Vale.

What can we say? The loss of a child, no matter the age, is a loss to part of our soul. I'm so sorry. My heart goes out to your family who I'm sure will help each other through.

I can not in my wildest nightmares imagine what you are going through in this time of trouble. Though I and my wife both have lost our fathers in the last few years it is not the same as losing your child. Nature dictates that the newer generations outlast the older, it just isn't the way of things. I can not imagine what life would be like without my son.

Me and mine are thinking about and praying for you and yours in your time of need. If there is anything that I can do for you from here, simply ask and it is done...

Edited to add: During times like these I think of my Amish and Menonite relatives for they believe so strongly that when you die you go to a better place and they are joyful though sad at the same time. Remember this and it will help to make you strong. Your son will suffer no more and as long as you have his memories in you, he isn't truly gone...
