Oh great. Anyone know how to clean chocolate milkshake off of a monitor and keyboard?

You didn't blow it out your nose, did you?

Yes, it does check for valid emails. My husband's "bounced back" and he had to verify the situation with Drew and/or Langdon. He could not log in without a valid email address. Apparently, the system does do it, but not continously, or our email boxes would be stuffed with dpc stuff!

Drew, Langdon, moderators, am I crazy, here?

well, both the troll's email and URL have changed since last night - expletives deleted - but they're both still invalid ...

just for the record, my husband either typed his email address wrong one time, or something freaky was going on, but he was not allowed in because his email was not "valid." or something like that

Ditto. I'm on the West Coast, but my schedule is such that I usually don't get around to voting until Thursday (or Friday, now that I'm so busy writing about this). Maybe I'll try voting Sunday night this week so my vote will "count."

I can't believe you figured it out and blew our cover. That is exactly how I locked in my place of 133, and most recently 160 (oops, actually TIED for 159.) Now how am I gonna rate above 200 I do not know.

Yep, me too. I confess. That is why out of 23 or 24 challenges, I have finished in the top ten, let's count, twice. I think. Ok, I'll go to ten more places. Top twenty finishes -- 4. Hmmmm. Of course, now I will need to explain the 167th finish in F&V, 112th in City Life (which I will point out was LAST), and 143rd in BW. Dang guys, I thought ya'll were my friends. A lot of help you are!

Let's see, out of almost 300 votes, mine counts how much?

As to the original PURPOSE of this thread, I too, can get a fairly decent idea to my average for the week. Usually it climbs about .2 by Tuesday, falls back down through Saturday, then has a little rally on Sunday, but not enough to make me cheer! This week has been different, though. I have stayed within a .1 of a point all week.

I have to give props to the Last Five as well :) It seems like my score always goes up from the last score I see to the score posted with my picture. I am assuming that is because of those who don't vote for the requisite %20 of the entries....

ABC - there's no secret society or clique of moderators. The yahoo group is open to anyone who is a member of DPC, and so is Lisa's chatroom (she runs it and she's not a moderator, although she'd probably be a good one :)). There is a moderator's forum where things like disqualification requests and rules changes are discussed. No one ever talks there about how they score the photos or any personal issues like that, and if they did they'd probably get some really dirty looks (especially from me!).

settle down, please

i'd wager that i'm usually one of the first 3 voters (also here on the west coast)

i'm not a moderator, and i don't belong to any "secret society" (not for this site anyway)

and as for how my entries place - to my way of thinking, lower than i woulda voted them -- cuz, gee whiz, there's no secret society to boost my ranking

that doesn't stop me from enjoying the shooting and voting and posting in the forums - if i had a ribbon or two, i might get jaded and not care anymore

Probably they are the moderators...they got some kind of a click ...you know what I mean,a sort of 'I'll show you mine,if you show me your's' or 'I'll give you a 10 if you give me a 10'.Us 'REAL' competitors should start a 'secret email society' too.Just check out the Yahoo DPChallenge group and you'll see what I am referring to.[/i]

ABC.....there is not a secret society. If there is then 95% of us our out of the loop..including me. Don't take it so seriously....there is no cash prize.

I was going to quit this...then I GOT WISE.The whole thing is just a joke...I don't care where I place in the voting.I got some real nice comments on my photo for this contest and the negative ones came from 'the click'.So,my advice is...just put your shot on the site, forget about placement and hope that those that appreciate your effort pay you some respect in their comments.

Regarding Jakking's post above, I pretty much do the same. For the first go-around I use 4=not impressed, 5=okay, 6=impressed. Then, as I have time through the week, I go through the 6's and give them close consideration. I do the same with the 5's and 4's until I have a wide grading range of pictures. Some of my first-impression "4's" have been marked up to 8's and 9's. Conversely, some of "impressed" grades have been marked down after closer consideration. So my first pass is just a "gut feeling" vote.
