That's just a wonderful chilling ballad...

Your quite welcome.

It stuck with you for 3 decades? That is quite an impact for it to have had, and still have. Glad I could help.

Great hair pics! Gives me some ideas to try when my sis visits next. :)

I've had lots of fun photographing my wife's hair, although it was never as impressively long as your sister's.

Today I am having a bad hair day.
It leaned to the left but only halfway.
I wish someone would just take it away
But then I'll be bald on my wedding day.

Oh, my goodness! What will I do?
Tomorrow I'm going to a barbecue.
I will walk in and say, "How-do-you-do?"
Then they'll laugh and I'll cry, "Boo-Hoo!"

There is a hair salon by a saloon.
They'll fix my hair before afternoon.
The way my hair is scattered and strewn.
You'd think I've been in a wild typhoon.

I'll be so blue!
Then whatever will I do?
I'll have to be at the church at two,
That's when the wedding march is due.

I just don't know why I sit here and worry.
I'll comb it and brush it all up in a hurry.
Then I won't have to be in such fury
I won't have to ship in a wig from Missouri.

I can go to my wedding in style
And I'll walk proudly down the aisle.
I'll never wear another toupee
Because I have a back-up for the next:
BAD HAIR DAY

Allow me (I Love My Love) -- might have to scroll a bit.

My wife had long hair when I met her (and twice since then) -- unfortunately it is very thick and full (unfortunate???) and does cause the headaches and difficulty in upkeep. So she keeps cutting it off, usually three or four times, until it is very short -- and then begins to miss it and begins anew the long, sad process of growing her hair long again.

Almost cut my hair
I happened just the other day
I was gettin' kinda long
I coulda, I coulda said it was in my way
But I didn't, and I wonder why
Guess I felt like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it
To someone

Early in the morning
By Li-Young Lee

While the long grain is softening
in the water, gurgling
over a low stove flame, before
the salted Winter Vegetable is sliced
for breakfast, before the birds,
my mother glides an ivory comb
through her hair, heavy
and black as calligrapher's ink.

She sits at the foot of the bed.
My father watches, listens for
the music of comb
against hair.

My mother combs,
pulls her hair back
tight, rolls it
around two fingers, pins it
in a bun to the back of her head.
For half a hundred years she has done this.
My father likes to see it like this.
He says it is kempt.

But I know
it is because of the way
my mother's hair falls
when he pulls the pins out.
Easily, like the curtains
when they untie them in the evening.

And another, by Richard Brautigan:

I want your hair to cover me
with maps of new places,
so that everywhere I go will be
as beautiful as your hair.

There was a man who married a maid.
She laughed as he led her home.
The living fleece of her long, bright hair
she combed with a golden comb.
He led her home through his barley fields
where the saffron poppies grew.
She combed and whispered "I love my love!",
he voice like a plaintive coo.
Ha, Ha! Her voice like a plaintive coo...

He lived alone with his chosen bride;
at first their life was sweet.
Sweet was the touch of her playful hair,
binding his hands and feet.
When first she murmured adoring words,
her words did not appall:
"I love my love with a capital A.
To my love I give my All!
Ha, ha! To my love I give my all!

She circled him with the secret web
she wove as her strong hair grew.
Like a golden spider she wove, and sang
"My love is tender and true!"
She combed her hair with a golden comb,
and shackled him to a tree.
She shackled him close to the Tree of Life:
"My love I'll never set free!
No, no! My love I'll never set free!"[i]

...and so forth and so on for many verses, by Helen Adam, the now-deceased modern master of the ballad form. It's a chilling poem, unfortunately not available online that I can see.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did have a back light on the hair, but there is so much of it. The light was rather high, and I didn't have another. I sure hope to get to shoot her again soon, think I can get her to travel 400 miles with the wedding dress again??? :)

I worked with a lady whose hair was long like that and I hear it can give you headaches. My daughter claims hers does if it gets past her shoulders.

Idnic, may I suggest that a back light would separate her hair from the background and show it off even more?

Congratulations to her on her marriage! She looked great!

Now you've done it...

"Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair..."

I thought I'd forgotten that, but I too have some left.

Ohhh, it's a real pain to have long hair like that, mine used to be touching my butt, it gets hot, is a pest to wash, dry etc.

Once I cut my hair short, I stopped having so many headaches. Who knew?

that is one of the reasons that my model cut hers. Too much trouble to look after, especially when you have a 2 yr old

Amazing indeed, and even longer than mine : )

I once saw a newspaper story about this Russian railway clerk, who invariably came to work with her hair wrapped into an elablorate bun. One day they finally got her to let her hair down, and it turned out that, although she was only 5'2" tall, her hair was about 5'4" ...

My favorite model, my sister. She just got married and I shot the wedding. This is not the best wedding shot, but is the best image of her amazing hair.
