i'll be a party pooper and say i like it the way it is - midnight sunday is 9 PM here on the west coast, which give me a couple hours to wrap up my first pass thru all the voting before i snooze

plus, i get to watch the east-coast feed of the Sopranos at 6 - so i can have my cake and eat it too! :)

I'm the one that started this thread, but I'll have to admit that I just ended up changing my submission just a few minutes ago. I took my camera with me on a family outing and I saw a photo op that just screamed negative space. Oh well, I still agree with the challange ending on Saturday night. If we would have had the subject of the new challange, I would have worked on that instead.

For me, 60% of my entries are shot on Sunday. I usually don't get an idea until later in the week, and then I often end up going with something a little different that I think about while I shoot. Moving the deadline to Saturday would nix most of my entries. Why don't we move it to noon EST on Monday? Then no one has to stay up, and the server won't get slammed immediately, since at least some people will be at work.

My fav idea (I'm sure it was already mentioned, but maybe I dreamed it) is to have the challenge declared a week in advance. That way, we would have a week to think and argue about the meaning, and then a full week to shoot and post our efforts.

If this were done, it would matter a lot less what day it started and stopped.

I'm not sure if drew and langdon are reading this thread yet.. i hope they are...

My original comment was for changing it to saturday midnite... but anything other than midnite on sunday would be better for me all the way around... I just like the idea of saturday nite because it would give me sunday to work on an idea if i had one. I rarely shoot on sundays now.. i usually get mine done on friday or saturday. I don't spend a lot of time during the week doing anything other than thinking about it...

Maybe we need a poll vote to decide what changes (if any) in deadline dates people would prefer. Moderators? Drew or Langdon?

i'm just suggesting that sundays are GENERALLY the universal day to do nothing--so we might have a lot more free time. i dont know about anyone else, but if the challenge ended on saturday, i prolly couldn't just wake up sunday morning with a killer idea and execute it all in the same day. of course, i would have the rest of the week, and the following saturday daytime. so, whatever is cool with me! ;)

I'm not sure about the complaints that we need Sunday to do our photos.

If we ended the challenge Saturday Night then the first day of the next challenge would be...Sunday :-) You could have all day Sunday to work on your new ideas...talk about he vote results...etc....

We all know that everybody likes to see the results and having it occur on midnight on Sunday night is insane :-)

Heck..have it end Friday night and we can have the weekend to talk about the results and figure out the new challange/take photos!!!

But a Sunday finish really needs to change..not earlier sunday either..that effectively kills a whole day of shooting.

Yay, 3am instead of 5am :P

I think that would work out too... I would get to bed at a more reasonable hour anyway :)

I am also in favor of changing it to Saturday night.

I think that is would not eliminate the weekend for people. Sure, it would start on a Sunday before people had really brainstormed ideas, but personally, I have found that some of my best ideas come when I'm out there trying to shoot something else entirely.

As for the rush of entries received on Sunday -- I think it's likely those are from the procrastinators (like myself) who are tweaking and deciding among their shots. Which means, they'd do the same, just one day prior.

Umm, but I wouldn't have an entry in for Neg Space :) I have an idea nailed down and figure to shot a couple of hundred attempts at it before the early football games... That will leave halftimes and after the late games to pick one and resize it.

Seriously, I notice the number of entries grows dramatically from Saturday night to Sunday night. Would the change exclude folks from entering? Or would they all just rush out entries on Saturday?

No answers :) Just Questions :)

People, if you are too tired for work on monday here is a solution:

Dont stay up all night, wait till you get home on monday!

That's just not tolerable!

I think Saturday Midnite would be lovely. I still go to church on Sunday but it's not as early as work and most sleep through the sermon anyway. I sit here late on Sunday now and wait for the new challenge and peruse the new entries and vote on most. It really does wear you out for the new work week.

I like either 6PM or midnight Saturday! I do get 1 hour advantage, being in Central zone. But 5:00 PM would be nice.

I think it'd be cool if they'd give 2 weeks of time to shoot the pictures. Its darn near impossible for me to figure out what the hell I'm going to do, or try to schedule something to be able to make it somewhere where we can get the shots we need. It's hard to force things to work out for you sometimes. Maybe there'd be a few more entries and higher quality work. I was thinking along the lines of announcing 2 challenges sunday at midnight. One for this week and one for 2 weeks down the road. Then after the first one is over, get another topic to shoot for 2 weeks down the road, with one week still left on the current. It wouldn't throw things too out of balance. We'd still have one full week to vote, just an additional week to get the right shot submitted. That would help me out. Right now, I'm not good enough to MAKE it happen. I just have to get lucky.

Jakking;

Livin on the West Coast...if they want us to stay up till midnight they'll have to change the start time to 3am. It's just perfect for us as it is...aren't we fortunate to live on the West Coast!!

If I were any further West my feet would get wet. I sleep to the sound of the waves on the shore every night.

Begin or end on any day of the week.....mox nix....I'll still need a couple days to get my mind wrapped around the new challenge. :)

That is what I was thinking, doesn't anyone date?

Sorry babe, I can't go out tonight, I have to see how I placed in this online challenge...no, no prizes, it is just... hello, hello.

But anyway, I like the idea too, and I still thinking have one day off to just shoot, or look at the results, or have barbeque would be nice. I like the Sunday dead line.

And no matter what, this site is great.
