Hello! I'm new here but I've lurked for a few months. I know I've read posts from members that were from the Bay Area. Its hard for me to schedule outings because of a busy family life, but thought it would be fun to get acquainted with members in my area, just in case I can make it to a "meet" here and there. Or even if I just get some great info from them on fun places to take my camera! I have a lot to learn and would enjoy learning with others. (next year my youngest go to 1st grade and I have more time for some "meets" or clubs.

I'm farther East than the Bay Area. I live in Discovery Bay. Heard of it?

The search thing was disabled or I would have responded to an old post but I figured why not start a "fresh" one?

Hi Laura,

Is that out in the Brentwood/Delta area?

There are a few people in the East Bay area ... there was a GTG about a month ago up on Mt. Diablo (I didn't go though). I'm waiting for "Summer vacation" before planning any outings.

Welcome :). The CA GTG's get pretty big so i think we would be considered a gang right? we can get pretty intimidating with such a large group.. sooo we'll have Arie jump you in.. :). I'm j/k of course all in good fun.

Never heard of Discovery Bay but hopefully you can join the "gang" on some outtings. Always welcome to see a new face in our "meets

General,
Yes, it is in the Brentwood/Delta area. Brentwood borders us and we live right near the water. Not on it, but near it! (for whatever reason everyone always asks if you live on the water if you live here!)

Hey wow Sandman. I'm good with the gang thing, I guess I just won't tell my Mother about it, lol. I don't think I was ever mean enough to be in a gang before! Its all that voting that has made you people tough enough to be gang material isn't it? So just how tough is Arie? Maybe I can "take" him/her?

I hear you Guarawa, we are not exactly a high visibility town. Kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but I like it! A moderate sized community all surrounded by fields! Great place to live :)

Oh, sure, Picture This, I know where Discovery Bay is. I get to Brentwood every once in a while - especially in cherry picking season (early June) and peaches, of course - all on Marsh Creek Road. It's all lovely over that way (except for the Brentwood/Oakley sprawl), and the Delta has its special beauty as well.

Sorry you couldn't come on the Mt. Diablo GTG. It was a fun day.

Just a thought, maybe Bay Area DPCers would like to make up a cherry picking party?

Anyhow, welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard. I have been around here for a while and live in Tracy. We are growing your way.

I shoot the Altamont area a lot. You might try it out very pretty this time of year.

Hope you learn alot and don't forget to have FUN.

Hi Alice,
Yes, too bad I didn't make it to that. I'm thinking this summer I might be able to make it to something if anything is planned. I know where you are talking about. We've gone out cherry picking the last couple of years also. When my sister comes to visit she has to have cherries.

Hello to you too Dick. I of course know where Tracy is too. I go there to shop some or pass through on the way to Modesto sometimes. I will have to try out the Altamont. Since I've gotten my new camera I've made it a habit to introduce my kids a bit to photography. I think when they're on summer break I may have to take them on some photo outings. My 13 year old already wants me to sign him up on DPC. It appears he is obsessed with my update button as I am, lol.
I just entered my first two challenges this week :O) Its great fun!

Hi Laura,
I'm your neighbor, I live in Brentwood only a stone's throw away from you. I go out shooting almost everyday here around my neck of the woods. You would be amazed what you can find in your own backyard if you look hard enough. You will really have fun here. I have hooked up with both alice(Great lady) and a couple of members from So.California a few times and every time I had a blast. I have also taken my twins with me on a few occasions. I'll pm you my cell # give me a call when you get the chance and we will go shooting around our area. I'm up for some pics today if your available, bring your kids, I usually have at least one in tow with me. Look forward to hearing from you soon. -Don.-(I just read your post again,I think our boys should have fun together on an outing. One of my sons is really starting to get into the camera thing.)

Hi Don,
I'd love to go out shooting sometime. I always seem to be doing something though. I have gotten in the habit since I have my new camera of trying to work in a little time shooting while I'm taking care of things I need to get done! This summer, I will have more freedom to meet up. We will have to do that. I would have at least a couple of kids in tow. I have a set of twins also(and 3 other children). Right now its nearly impossible for me to plan much as the kids school schedule keeps me from straying from home! Even though I've loved taking photos most of my life, its only in the last year that I've started learning the "technical" stuff. I still have a lot to learn but I'm really enjoying every aspect of it.

I just love this site an i'm sure as well as being fun its going to help me so much.

As for the finding stuff in your own back yard..............I was just telling someone the other day how its really become apparent to me lately how many things there are around you that can be used as "props", backgrounds. I take my kids for a walk and they climb trees and I photograph them. They sit out on the front porch and the brick makes a great photo, they play on the slide and the bright yellow makes a great accent, and so on and so on. I've also noticed a change in the way that I see everything. Everything is studied now to see if it could be incorporated into some type of photo, lol. Makes you a lot more observant, which I'd say is a good thing!

Do you have a studio in your home or in town? I know I've seen at least one in Brentwood.

Hey laura, as soon as I clean up the disaster area in my garage that's going to be my studio( I think there was an explosion that went off in there one night while I was sleeping. Just kidding of course, heehee). Are you up for Starbucks for a quick meet tonight with the kids. At least that way We could meet and plan an outing. Ok I'll admit it I just need an excuse to get out of the house and mingle with Adults and talk photography. My four year olds do not seem to understand what an F/stop is yet. Hey we could talk twins . Do you have boys or girl twins , as you can see I have both.

Hey Don,
I posted some photos of my kids to my portfolio on here. I figured that was faster than finding out how to post them directly to my post. The twins are girls, as you will see. 5 years old. I have a 9 and 10 year old girl and a 13 year old boy.

Like I said, I get little time to go anywhere and if I try to fit in extra stuff it tends to stress me out, lol. And no one at my house likes me stressed out. Tonight I am spending the evening taking my two children from my previous marriage to meet their Dad in Modesto. Then coming home to a high maintenance nephew that is spending the week while my SIL goes to Italy.

To be honest, I doubt I'll meet up with anyone anytime soon, but it will happen this summer, but feel free to message me, etc. if you have yahoo messenger. I'll P.M. my yahoo messenger I.D. to any of you that want to chat sometime. Bitch about the challenges, etc. :) (actually though, I'm having nothing but fun with these challenges so far) When I'm not running the kids all over I try to use my time to study the NYIP course I have, which I love!

Good to hear you claimed the garage! I wasn't fast enough and my husband took over ours for a machine shop! I just bought some studio stuff because i'm just starting to try to learn about lighting. My "studio" is taking over my livingroom, lol.
