With 3 mins to go until the end of the challenge, i'm pleased with the result, although i would've wished for a little better. Hopefully i'll make it in the top 25...

But what really bugs me is, i only got 222 votes, in a challenge that has 272 entries... somehow, i find this a little disturbing. Shouldn't there at least me that many votes? I would guess at least everyone who entered could give the courtesy of voting on the challenge at 100%... Oh well, that's just me.

Cheers everyone,

Was a great fun doing this challenge! I love my little furball so much ;)

That is a good way to comment "I would have scored this higher but..." I will start doing that. I too learn a lot by reading comments for other entries, and for other photographers. I will keep plodding along, and hopefully I will continue to improve.

I've mostly lurked here for a bit over 2 years, learning from voting and reviewing challenge results--comments didn't seem as vital to me for my first challenge scores--sometimes it just became obvious upon viewing the ranked results that my entry just hadn't nailed the challenge theme as well as others had. Sometimes now I leave comments for "4 or 5s" like "...would have scored this higher if there was more contrast", or "...would have scored this higher if the horizon had been leveled." [/quote]

This is my second entry in a challenge, but I have been voting for months now. I am really disappointed in having only one comment. For those of us newbies to digital photography, maybe we should focus on commenting on the "middle of the pack" rather than the highest and lowest photos.

I agree. I need to work on which images I comment on. I looked back on my votes and most of the comments were for my top picks.

No comments!!!! My cutie isn't cute?? Does anyone else have 0 comments??? This is heartbreaking ;)

I'm really fascinated with the quality of everyone's photos and they do reflect the love for their pet! I haven't given anyone less than 5 in this challenge and am going to go back through the whole lot and raise the scores at least by 2, I'm being silly I know but it's my vote and I can do whatever I want with it ;)

Way to go Zac! Good luck to you and welcome! Nice camera by the way. Man, what kind of allowance do you get?! :-)

Me thinks I know where Zack gets his talent and use of camera ;)

Very nice job Zack, hope I've left you a good comment ;)

That's my brother Seth not me - most people say we look alike. I don't get paid anything for allowance just the use of my dads camera and studio stuff. My dad taught me how to use the camera and now am kicking his butt in pet portraite. Here is my score so far

I just finished voting (finally!) and re-scored some images. Some people improved 3 points, others remained where they were. I will now work on commenting, but if I don't get to you, sorry!

Depending on how the photo's are shuffled in the viewing order per each voter, I think my particular shot would fair better if viewed as catshot, number 30 or 40 as opposed to 140. That is if people only make one round.

I find that I'm more generous deeper into my voting than at the start. I tend to view everything directly compared to my image regarding the rules of the challenge as I saw them but loosen up when I start to see more entries that I hadn't envisioned and begin to accept those trends or interpretation.

I do hope for my sake that people do make a second pass to readjust and I'm certain that I will fair much better.

I've been slowly creeping up. I'm still not too thrilled with my 5.4 nor too happy with only 4 comments. Somehow I get the feeling that if people make a second pass on their voting I could creep up a little further. I might be content with a 5.6 at this point.

With so many cat shots, I assume people might be getting tired of looking at them...especially if they don't like cats to begin with.

That's about where I'm at...5.40, 3 comments. I'm not thrilled either.

Pretty much holding steady
04/09/2005 02:27:52 AM · #20
feels kind of wierd that the number of votes is almost half of the number of entries. :(

Was looking at more voting on this challenge. Time's running out too. Perharps the weekend will give users more time to vote?

Not that difficult to explain really! A lot of folks don't leave any comments that might be construed as being the least bit negative for fear of getting snarky emails.

Another factor to be considered is the sheer number of entries for a challenge these days. Once people have voted on the required 20%, they may not feel like adding comments to the mix.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Oh I forgot.... Low 5's is not a bad score in this realm, believe me.
