I have decided after much deliberation that I will be going with a 640 x 320 crop but in a portrait mode. I know that I will probably get beat up if I am the only one. So through this forum I am reaching at to all that have yet to submit. I hope that if there are enough of us we will not get punished as harshly by the voters. Please don’t let me be the only one with a portrait style picture. Thank you so much and I hope to see more of you posting pictures in this style for this challenge.

(P.S there has to be portrait billboards.)

There are also 1.5:1 billboards and probably a ton of different combinations too.

Go for it...however someone will probably have you disqualified.

Not meeting the challenge is not grounds for disqualification. Disqualifications can only happen for violations of the Challenge Rules or Terms of Use.

I just submitted my entry at 640X320 and left over a solid half of the canvas open for text.

Is that what they were looking for?

I don't think we have room for a whole billboard in our file cabinet!

You right, I stand corrected...it says SHOULD BE...not SHALL BE landscape oriented.

My apologies.

I am glad to see that there are people who will stray from the rules. I just hope that we all don’t get thirty 1's. Like I said the more people that we have the better it will be for all of us. I really hope that this forum will convince some people to go with a different crop than the one recommended.

i am submitting my landscape.

It says it should be landscape format.. sudjesting that be the challenge. They also sudjest you take a picture that could be used as a billboard, but of course you don't HAVE to... i.e. i think it is in the spirit of the challenge to comply with the things they 'sudjest'

But isn't that part of the challenge in the 'Billboard Challenge'? (pun intended) When I was considering shots to take for this challenge I took into consideration ahead of time what the composition was so it would look correct in a 640x320 layout. What I'm saying, is that I considered the shot as I was taking it, rather than taking something and trying to make it fit later by cropping drastically.

Had I known about the challenge when I was out taking pictures I would have done it in a landscape format, but I only saw it when I got home. So if I do try doing it the right way (landscape) I feel the picture looses a lot. So I figure I would take a risk and be one of the few that will get beat up. Trust me if I could I would take it in landscape format.

That's a tough spot, I agree....but to be honest, I would vote you down. Certainly not a one or anything (unless, of course, the picture completely sucked..haha)....but as I read the challenge rules, we're all supposed to be working under the same specs. In fact, that's really the only thing unifying the challenge...if the ratio was merely "suggested," it might as well have been a free study.

I agree its part of the challenge, I had to reshoot because of it. You will be marked down heavily I would think. You may want to reconsider.

I know what you mean, but I really think this photo would do well and it would be a shame not to use it. Well I guess in the end I will just have to see what happens. Best of luck to all in the challenge.
