Solo circumnavigation is definitely a daunting task. People have been doing it for a long time since Joshua Slocum first did it in 1895-1898.

She was moored up in my home town of Falmouth for a week waiting for the right weather to come along, I've got some pics somewhere of her boat but not sure where...

Anyone with a few minutes to spare should visit the website of Ellen McArthur who is sailing around the world in a single handed record attempt. The girl's courage is mind blowing, and the webcam shots show how dangerous the seas are. There was an exellent shot of her as she sailed past the Falkland Islands taken from a Lynx helicopter belonging to HMS Gloscester,(shown in the background).
