Hub and I agreed not to spend on each other this Christmas as we've spent a lot this year on travel. Plus, being DINKies we spoil ourselves throughout the year so it's not like there's lots of stuff we are desperate for.
From family I got 5 books from my Amazon wishlist:
Tall Blondes: a Book About Giraffes by Lynn Sherr
Born Free Trilogy by Joy Adamson
Elephant Destiny: Biography of an Endangered Species in Africa by Martin Meredith
Out of Africa by Karen Blixen

Also got various toiletries, a few foodie things and things like that.
Best of all, some of my friends bought prints from my charity project. I'd sent an email out to people whom I usually exchange presents with asking them to consider buying a charity print instead - they'd either get to keep it or give it to someone else as a present. The present to me would be in the support for something important to me. So far 6 people have done just that which is brilliant. I'm most excited about these gifts than all the rest.

We left Sunday morning to spend the rest of Christmas weekend with our sons in San Antonio and Austin :) We did not get back until late Monday night. We picked up some nice gifts from the trip.
I got a Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse, DVD Burner and some blank DVD's :) Our oldest son also gave me his old AMD CPU after he built his new machine.

I got a new dryer for Christmas when mine died 2 weeks ago. Also got a WalMart tripod so my little boy can use it while I use the good one.
That was Christmas then today I woke up to a furnace that wasn't working....and temp of 12 degrees outside....BURRRRR |

Linda, sorry for the delayed response. I thought I would love the vest and have been eyeing them for awhile. A net friend had one on one of our meets and it seemed really handy and he said it helped to spread the weight out over your body so you didn't feel it as bad. Our outtings can be 8-10 hours long. That's a long time to haul gear on your shoulder. Anyway, I had wanted to try it on at B&H while in NYC a few weeks ago but I forgot they were closed for Channukah. So, the vest was ordered online.
It seems as though the vest is built for men. I ordered an XL in case I wore something heavy underneath. I don't like things snug. The top of the vest is very loose but, because I'm not built like Barbie, it's more snug around the hips. It also reaches below my hips onto my legs, which is uncomfortable when you put lenses in the pockets. The pockets are like huge bulges that kind of 'bounce' as you walk - because the best is too long. I also wish the pockets were padded in some way. The material seems nice but after all that I can't say it's really worth $100. If you want to see pictures of it, or of it on, please email me.

Spazmo's response: Those photo vests just scream "DORK!" , probably hit the nail on the head, and it sure made me laugh, but, I really did want your "take" on it. I'm always trying to figure out how to carry the maximum amount of equipment without looking & feeling like a "pack horse".
I usually just end up taking my husband! I'll turn him into a photographer yet; he's starting to actually use the equipment he carries around for me, and has started throwing around phrases like: "we really need to invest in a couple of extra bodies so we can have other lenses ready". I think I'll do without the vest, it may payoff in the long run!

i scored for sure. apple powerbook w/ dvd burner, nikkor 50mm 1.8 and some gift cards. Advice to college kids....drop out then go back, your parents will be happy!

LOL!! That is kind of what I suspected, but you know how it is, most of us are always trying to figure out a way to carry all this stuff! |
lol, they aren't the most stylish things but my friend didn't seem to look bad in one. He's very tall and it fit him better than it did me. Besides, like Linda, I could get passed the "dorkeyness" if it was comfortable and did the job. It would sure beat the shoulder bag I currently have.

The most valuable gift I got from my loved ones is not something one can buy, but rather the smiles, hugs, kisses and other displays of love and affection exhibited, and lavishly doled out by all.
This is what I crave, and I am blessed in that it is something that I am fortunate enough to received on a regular basis. I am truly blessed. |

Hmm.. I got a PC Game, DVD, BOOKS and all sorts of stuff... I got some money so bought a nice graphics card (Nvidia Geforce FX5500) and a DAB Radio for the hi fi... woohoo, I don't know what to do first!!!!! oh and 512MB SD for me Ipaq..yay

You're sweet for asking! Thanks! :-) After removing two pieces of the sidewalk and digging down about 8 feet they found the water main and patched the pipe. The water came back on about 4:30 PM so we were able to cook, clean, and let our family use the bathrooms. Dinner was late, but oh well. We watched football until it was ready. I felt so bad for the city workers - out in the cold and away from their families on Christmas. They said they didn't mind so much, they get double their wages when working on holidays. They also told me that if it wasn't a city utilities problem that it would have cost us around US$8000 to repair - so I should consider this my Christmas present from the city. Thankfully we didn't get a flooded basement from all the extra water in the soil. It could've been much, much worse, so I feel very fortunate.

Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon ES-62 lens hood, and a UV filter
Canon EW-78BII lens hood and a Canon LP1116 Soft Case for my 28-135mm
I got clothes too (the gift everyone ends up getting).
I also bought myself an early Christams present on the 21st. A new 2004 Nissan Xterra w/ World Championship Package.
I love it, but it really hurts at the gas pump. I averaged 14mpg (using 4 wheel drive occasionally), and my Grand Am used to get about 22.5mpg
