it seems to be over now, and i would recommend this thread be deleted so as not to intimidate/mislead those who may be just happening to browse the site for the first time, what it is like here generally.

i would say the same for the other thread i have just read through.

Because this user created a new account and troll voted/commented, SC members HAVE had to respond to this and waste their time. We have to listen to this inane bs over and over again in 3 or 4 threads until SC locks them and with the ability to create new accounts, how long before someone TRULY spams this board?

My initial post was dedicated to "been there, done that, been through this, it sucks, get mad, GET OVER IT."

When someone starts 4 posts, they are looking for attention and nobody should be sad or surprised when they get it.

Yet another duplicate user ("mabel") had been created and has subsequently been banned. Since this thread isn't going anywhere anymore, I think it's best to lock it and move on...

Many people try to help, regardless of the situation. That's the primary benefit of this site.

YES!YES!

Gee, it feels more to me like a crowd of people huddled in a corner of the plaza, held at bay by a rabid dog ... look at the energy being wasted because of a user's mistake.

That user, having already been suspended, has apparently gone on to further violate site rules by creating a new account specifically to leave unhelpful comments on other people's photos.

I'm one of the ones accused of being unfair and called names. Exactly why should I be "compassionate?"

Hardly a rabid dog... a rabid dog is a genuine threat. Nobody here is forced to keep responding and in doing so carry on feeding the flames. I'm not saying I agree with what is being said, but I think too many people exploit the opportunity to show how 'mature' and grown up they are, at the expense of somebody else. Let other people learn and grow from their own mistakes, they don't need or appreciate being shown the error of their ways by an angry mob. Why are so many people so gleeful at getting involved?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It is not nice to draw a sword at the start of any conversation. It simply states your bad will from square one. I believe the SC ignored the threat and ill will, and continued on good faith to no avail.

Haha. On the G3, the date/time is in the menu list when you're in the review mode. I suspect the G6 is similar.

It's gonna hurt ... but it can be done. Check your owner's manual.

A strange thing happens when the thread is read. The venom of the initiator arouses the crowd to clearly see the transgression. These folks simply self destruct into a puff of smoke. They may return and try to break something but in time they give up because they know in their hearts that they are wrong.

Everyone loves the SC but have a hard time exuding the same grace themselves. Me included on the best of days.

:-)

They DO handle themselves well.

I am surprised that these threads even exists. Not long ago I missed a challenge because I decided to use my minolta. Right before midnight I realized, wrong time. I simply did not submit. What is the big deal here. Yes, I spent a lot of time on the set up but did not check the time on camera. Tough, but that is my problem. I heard of another member who said that their time was wrong but entered because the image would not rise to scrutiny. These members are arguing from their standpoint and considering the rules as intereference. That is, they argue: I took it in the challenge time. We all know what they mean but the phrase ignores the fact that they are entering a competition which has rules and regulations.

It is a shame when this happens but when you enter a challenge you must be ready to succumb to its regulations.

Going about and bad mouthing creates the sensation that an injustice is being commited when in reality the victum is just sounding off from an undefendible position. The rules, proof of date in camera...not be confused with: if that is incorrect then supply supporting data like sun rising in image or uncle ready to vouch.

Personally I find the site council to be very ethical and it disturbs us all when they are attacked and impugned by members that want an exception and when they are refused, they turn like rabid dogs.

I ate my image without a word. It was stupid I. I think that when we are wrong we should just move on without creating multitudes of ill feelings.

Kudos to the SC...

Now hang on here.

This morning I was called a b******** (which, I'll grant ya, nobody really knows what that stands for), insensitive (and okay, maybe I am because I told him to quit whining and get over it), an asshole, a bigot, and vicious (because I called him by his own name). I'm not particulary offended because I don't particulary care about sticks and stones like that... But when folks whose work I admire (yeah, though nobody 'round here really knows me yet) start insinuating stuff, well, honestly... Then I kinda take exception to that.

As has been noted, this gentleman started several threads completely getting out of control about stuff, and got it handed back to him. I think that the responses he received were in keeping with the attitude he presented. If you had a child who whined on and on for hours in a similar manner and then started calling names, you would maybe spank the child or send them to time out to think their actions over. You would not encourage the child to behave in a similar manner again. In my opinion, sometimes we encounter adults who never received proper direction as children. I think this is one of those circumstances.

Yes, it's good to be patient and tolerant. However, I do not feel that it's necessary to be tolerant of those who fly off the handle and expect their outburst to be sympathized with.

Furthermore, I think the SC was patient and completely justified in their comments and in the steps they took. Having moderated an online forum elsewhere several years ago, I know it can be hard to be fair and keep your cool when folks are trying to get your goat, and I think they did a great job of keeping their professionalism about them this morning.

I agree Kim.

He started at least 3 threads that began with "FRICKIN BULL CRAP". He was wanted attention, He got it.
I was simpathetic to his situation. However, he is not the first person that this has happened to, nor will it be the last(look at the landmarks challenge) . The SC has made it very clear where they stand on the issue of EXIF dates, and has no choice but to uphold the rules. They have been responsible, posting warnings, and clearly defining the rules. To complain, about your own ignorance, after the fact, is silly.
I have no empathy for someone who asks for understanding, by making accusations. The SC was supposed to be understanding of his situation, but he had no interest in trying to understand theirs. In fact, he began by slandering them. He wanted respect, but gave none.
