I'm around 5.12 now, and it stopped going up and down

I'm holding out hope that many of the initial voters were just joking, in tribute to this challenge, and will later change their votes back to the 9 or 10 they really meant to leave.

I can't believe I submitted a picture just to participate in this challenge. And just as my overall average had started to go up! I'm under 5 for this one. :(

Yeah good job - Nick might be onto something - let's start voting all photos originating in the south pacific 10's and I might get back to six as well.

maybe we should get an allowance of like 1 get out of jail free card every 3 or 6 months - obviously you can't have a limitless delete photo button, everyone below five would use it :).
12/02/2004 02:54:01 AM · #8
All I want for Christmas is a 'Wish I hadn't done this' delete button. I could take a proper look at my last minute entry the next morning and ping....it could be gone! LOL

Started at 5, presently sunk to 4.2 and I agree with the comments!

I am used to having the score drop a bit early on from the initial high (relativley speaking) score. What I am not used to is how far it is falling this time...I was at 5.2 to start, and hovered arond 5 to 5.1 most of today. Now 4.8. I thought this was one of my better shots. If so, I am in deep trouble. It is sinking while my Low Tech is rising, and it is not nearly as good a shot as this. (IMHO). Oh well, this is what keeps me up at night. More sleep might mean better entries....do ya think?

The dof topic swings both ways depending on what the photographer has in mind. In many cases it is a subjective choice wherein one person will chose a shallow and the other a deeper, even with the same image.

With point and shoot this is never a consideration but think about it, you are entering an image into competition and dof is simply another tool that may improve an image to tweak your intention. Of course, if you care not, then you simply live with the results.

Funnily enough I have at least one comment suggesting I should have tried a shorter DOF.... the person perhaps has a point... but given Im using a fully auto point and shoot I had to laugh :).
12/01/2004 11:12:51 PM · #13
Started with 6.25 now down to 5.41.

Can I just vent a moment about a comment, or rather a viewing habit. I really appreciate all comments that I receive, and try to take them as constructively as possible. I wouldn't want to discourage any commenting, but I would just like to suggest that a shorter DOF is not always a mistake. Please ask yourselves if the CHOICE of DOF enhances the overall photograph or detracts from it before deciding that a lack of crystal clear focus throughout the image is a mistake. Whew . . I feel a bit better! : )

i was at 5.30 with some nice encouraging comments... and when I got home today, another nice comment but the photo slipped to 4.99. go figure!

Dropping like a feather . . . attached to an anvil. 5.4273. Better than I anticipated though. Every time I click update, it goes down, so I'm not clicking update any more. Yeah right.

It's my first challenge and I'm a 15 yr old just starting photography, so I guess that isn't too bad.

That's very good for a first entry. Better than my current score in Humor (which is not funny).

Errrghhh.... I just gave up on this challenge. I'm now in the 5.6's - I thought that after about 30 votes my score would stay at least semi-stable. Apparently not. I have now dropped .6 of a point in 12 hours, It will take a miracle to keep me out of the fours :P.

Wow, no one used my idea and I never got the nerve up to take the photo!!! -_-

*sighs* Someday when I have a tripod I'll take it. Twas going to be a photo of my group of friends and I...the catch? Well, there's 7 of us, and only one is a guy! Lol, so title would have been something like "Six girls + 1 Guy...7 times the fun!" Or something better. ^^;;

I'm dropping like a lead balloon. The last 15 times I've seen my score change it's been downward. Considering we have 6 days of voting left, at this rate I'll be at 1.002 at the end (a new brown ribbon record).
