He's right there under the branch in profile. His eye is right above the branch.

Yeah that's near my girlfriend's parents' house. Or at least we've been over it -- they live in Martinsburg. That's a great shot btw.

Is that near West Virginia? I think that's near where my girlfriend is from.

Didn't see your inquiry until days later. Sorry for the late reply. Yes, it's in Harper's Ferry, WV, near where the Shenandoah River empties into the Potomac. Have you seen the bridge?

Not as thoroughly or consistently as I can ... : )

Left you this comment on your entry:

I find it's the one tree in front of the ess-curve in the path which is the most distracting; the path is the title subject, and you are partly obscuring it's most "interesting" feature. Perhaps moving a couple of feet to the left would frame the curve of the path between the more substantial trees.

This would be a good shot to try in duotone mode, using a light blue or cool gray as the second color to accentualte the feeling of coldness; duotones often have more of a feeling of depth to them than do monochromes.

These are the image I submitted and its color version. I liked the B&W better because I thought it had a lonely feeling to it. Didn't even break the fives in scoring though and only two comments.

These are the B&W and color versions of my second choices. Any thoughts if it might have done better. I like the composition but it makes me dizzy if I look at it for a while.

At the time, I preferred the B&W version of my photo, but after looking at it and it's score for a week, I'm now bored with it and the colour one is a refreshing change, which at the moment I like more. Al all depends on my mood at the time :P

One other thing, I think it's a little peculiar that so many people prefer the colour versions of their photo... wasn't the whole purpose of the challenge to shoot in such a way that the focus on light and shadow means that a black and white conversion actually improves the image.

To me it seems like a bit of a waste to be taking a picture you like and converting it to black and white simply to meet a challenge in spite of the fact that the photo is better in colour?

Man I am so frustrated that I missed this challenge. Wouldn't you know it, the week black and white comes up I'm smack bang in the middle of exams.

Damn the student life... not only does it leave me unable to afford a decent camera, but I had to impose a ban on taking pictures for fear of getting absorbed and failing to study.

I think it is more a matter of crop & composition than colour. It even suggests "lonly" better than the BW IMHO

I like the colour version better, but the B&W worked surprisingly well.

Yeh you are right - I have always preferred b&w to colour, it seems to add much more impact to a photograph.

Here is mine - I think you will agree that the colour version is pretty boring.

Converted to b&w (yeh!), adjusted in curves, cropped, usm
