When I first saw the title of this challenge on the one hand I was happy as I love the Christmas period and here in the mountains it's had a good dose of snow and fog in these last few days that have been great for my landscape photography.

On the other hand, it's the first theme to push me out of my comfort zone of nature and landscape photography so it's a fresh challenge for me!

I realise it's still not live, but I wondered how everyone is feeling about the topic? How do you feel about Christmas lights? Is your town the idea location for such a shoot?

I've just seen an event locally that I would LOVE to share with you as it's just perfect for the shoot (and I'm in Italy so I'm sure no-one will beat me to the punch on it :) ) but I realised that in doing so I would probably identify my photograph ahead of the challenge, so I'll leave the backstory for the entry text itself.

Long story short, I can't wait for this one now! Fingers crossed the event goes well and, if not, at least I can finally spill the beans about the location as it's very close to my heart.

I can't wait to read all about it afterward!

Sounds fun.

I'm glad you're up for the challenge and even excited about it.

I know of what you speak!! So many times I'm incredibly excited about a shot, and you guys are the people with which I want to share. But then I have to wait! It's hard!!

I haven't thought about the lights challenge, yet. I have a tendency to wait until the last day and do things last minute. (that's why my food entry is at 5.5 ;) But I'll get a top 10, no matter what!! (hehe)

I need to decide what tactic to try. Do I want to go Wacky Tacky? Do I want to go elegant? Is there something I can do that's unexpected?

But now that you mention it, I should probably start driving around to at least get an idea of what's out there. I saved rural until very last minute, so I was stuck with this as my only shot:

- though it was a fun experiment. I hadn't tried that type of thing with a cell phone camera before.

Thank you! I hope I can get close to what I envisage, or at least that I can find a few shots that work well. I know the location quite well already, just not with Christmas lights so I have a little bit of a leg up in that respect versus going to a new town or city (we live in the sticks so there's not much else than a few lights here and there :) )

I like the idea behind that shot! I think sometimes it's good to add the extra challenge of time pressure. If the topics alone don't push us to experiment and leave our comfort zone, a time limit sure will :)

I think whatever happens I'll share a photo from the event just to talk a little about the location, it's a really unique place and a great thing to visit if ever in this part of the world.

Well I'm pleased to say that despite initially leaving the event feeling that the lighting was too challenging to do it justice and that as fun as it was I'd need to move to my plan B for the entry, on getting the shots into Lightroom I realised that actually it was not only workable but probably the image I'm most proud of ever :) Fingers crossed others see it the same way, looking forward to this one!
