Thinking of you Johanna.

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have some good stuff to be thankful for. Been thinking about you and, inwardly, wishing you well as you progress to a full recovery. Best of the season, and all my best to you.

Johanna!!! I am so late to the party and am just now reading all this! How traumatic! I am so sorry you have been thru so much but it sounds like maybe the worst of it is transitioning into better days! I will keep you in my prayers until you are back wow’ing the world with your amazing art! *HUG* (a soft one).

Hi Johanna,
Sounds a little better. Take this time to heal well, time goes quickly and you want the recovery to bring you the best possible results.
Best Wishes for a Great Recovery

It is only two months more and then hit the slopes! ;)
(I hope that you will fully recover, holding fingers :)

It’s good to hear you are making progress. It takes a long time for the body to heal and I know the frustration but be patient. It will get better.

Hugs! Gentle, of course, to avoid any back protests!

Thanks everyone. Yesterday was one month from the accident. I'm hanging in there, and fortunate that I'm mostly without pain. I do experience some mystery aches now and then, which scare me because I don't know if they're due to a shift in my spine or just part of the healing process. Fatigue is huge on a daily basis and I'm taking 3 hour naps. Just standing beats the stuffing out of me! My back just really protests if I stand longer than 5 minutes. It makes doing anything at all a real challenge.

I truly appreciate all your support and encouragement. 2 more months in my clam shell!

The pain comes and goes unexpectedly. Mostly at night, so it's hard to sleep. It's going to be a long 3 months.

Nothing worse than getting old with ailments and injuries.

I'm down to two modified positions that I can sleep in for short periods of time.

I sympathize greatly. Don't be afraid to try different things.

Some nights I can sleep better in a recliner packed with pillows.

Most of my issues have to do with trying to breathe, so that may not be helpful, but I do know that positioning is crucial.

Good luck!

Hey Johanna! Poked my head in here and saw this. What the hell!?
I know you're a tuffy, so get well soon. I hope the pain eases up quickly.
Lots of healing vibes comin' your way. xx

May be time for me to upgrade him from "The Hand" to "The Hug" :-) Give him a punch in the shoulder for me, willya?

Will do

Hoping you can get some sleep soon but glad you have pain free days. This will obviously take time. You are lucky to have the most helpful and caring partner ever.

Really pleased that during the day you aren't being too troubled by your injury - and hoping the night time pain eases soon.

Days seem to be improving, but something about the night brings out the pain.

I so feel for you...

I'm in a similar, but much less extreme, boat. I'm doing physical therapy 2x a week for shoulder and spinal alignment issues, and it's working well even if it IS like getting tortured twice a week, but sometimes the pain and cramps and spasms and such flare up in the wee hours and sleep is GONE. Thank heavens for the internet and cable TV and good books and crossword puzzles and a well-stocked refrigerator.

Hopefully you can access those things in your current state? If you can't get up and move/relocate that makes it even more awful. Nothing worse than lying in bed unable to sleep and not wanting to turn on lights/devices for fear of waking one's partner :-(

I'm relatively ambulatory - can walk short distances, go up and down stairs, but no twisting, turning, bending, which is why I wear the shell. I've been treating with Tylenol for the whole week, but I keep waking up with the pain that seems to start at about 2. So I tried 1/2 Tramadol before bed (gives me nausea so I have to take it with Zofran), and that gave me 5 hrs uninterrupted. But then I woke up again with that very specific pain and couldn't find a spot for myself, so I got up and took Tylenol.

The odd thing is that for the most part, during the day, I barely have any discomfort whatsoever.

My friend Tom and I recorded this in the early 1980s (remember cassette tapes?) -- I think it fits that description. You can stream or download at this link -- be ready though, it's over 16 minutes long. :-)

I'll Be Here (Kathryn's Concerto)

That was so lovely. Thank you.

Thanks. :-)

You can check out more recent recordings (still mostly of 50-year old songs though) here
