I'd been doing a good job of voting on challenges, but I did forget to vote on this one and then ran out of time.
I looked at the photo, and the interesting thing is that it actually creeped me out. It was a very visceral reaction. Sometimes that type of reaction can elicit a high score or a very low score. I'm wondering if some of the scoring was the same type of reaction.
I was banking on the more emotional reaction from my entry, and didn't get that, either.
I would have thought that photographers would have understood that type of smile: "Do I really want to be here taking these shots?" type of reaction.
I think this type of challenge relies more on emotional reactions more than challenges like still life, or vanishing point, etc. When we look at a smile photo -- we want to feel the joy. We want it to make us smile. And that's a hard thing to do. |

| I liked it fine but it didn't perticularly read as a smile to me. |

| Sorry, those are hypothetical cases, just based on a larger number of votes than we get these days (100, to make the math easier). |

I had no great expectations when I entered the Smile challenge, but I didn't expect my entry to polarise people quite as much as it did.
I don't ever recall receiving such a low proportion of 5s with similar proportions of votes above and below 5.
While my score was mediocre at best, I prefer this outcome to one of total indifference.
