The title was Australian slang for travelling on foot (waltzing) with one's belongings in a "matilda" (swag) slung over one's back. ... The song narrates the story of an itinerant worker, or "swagman", making a drink of billy tea at a bush camp and capturing a stray jumbuck (sheep) to eat. |
Well thank you, though since elementary school I've heard a rather more X-rated interpretation of the phrase ... ;-) |

Well that's funny...I was born in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) but learned that song at school as a child in South Africa. My parents emigrated to South Africa when I was 4 years old...hahhahar haharhahahaha |
