One of my grandfather's favorite lines: "Well, I'll be tee-totally, cow-kicked by a bullpup tied to a root, by gum!".

i've googled it and come up with nothing helpful .. and read here as well .. i'm still a bit in the dark .. well dang .. !! ..
i think frustration was one meaning .. i could be wrong .. ;)

I would not bet the farms on this one Roz, but in these parts ..."Well dang" might be the equivalent of the Aussie terms: "cor strewth", "bugger me dead" or maybe even "strewth".

Mind you, that is assuming that I still remember the "strine" I did learn whilst visiting you fine folks.

but 'dang'? really?

Yep. I use it. Along with 'daggummit'. In place of swearing (around other peoples kids) I say 'rumplestilskin'. :-)

Rumplestiltskin was the magic word that my primary-school teacher sister-in-law used to bring her glass to a sudden stop, cease whatever they were doing and pay full attention to her.

I seem to remember hearing about a teacher who would shout over a noisy class "I demand pandemonium RIGHT NOW!" to get them to shut up -- I suppose, like puppies, it's more the tone of voice than the meaning of the words ...

Well dang! :-)

BTW, my mom used to say "Piffleberries" a lot...

In the end, none of this conversation matters.

It only matters what the voters think about our rendition.

I know. I was saying "OH sh*t" = bad; "WELL sh*t" = good (but of course "Well sheee**t" is definitely bad . . . I think??)

And apparently both "Oh dang" and "Well dang" = bad. But "Whoa, dang" = good . . . and so, at least sometimes, is just plain "Dang!"

Personally, I say, "Piffle" for bad and "Well, would ya look at that??!!" for good, neither of which are EVER to be taken as challenge topic suggestions, Bear_Music

agreed.

But "Well, SH*T!!" means "Wow, that's COOL!!" - right?

Absolutely!! If it was something bad, I'd skip the "well"!

I mended it. Used Expert editing rules ... a bit sloppy, but semi-functional. LOL

Maybe you need to call in Gyaban for a consult before it's too late? Or is it already?
