Additionally now you have to create a new layer before launching Nik as otherwise it works on the existing layer. I hate that there is nowhere to change this in the preferences. Definitely a backward step I think.

I had that problem at some point, as well. You don't have to create a new layer -- you need to go to the file menu, go to automate, and pull up the NikEfex menu. Then it works like it should

So much better than old version. Well worth it for my workflow.

I downloaded the new version as a trial. for my workflow it makes no sense to upgrade as the tools I routinely use, Color Efex & Silver Efex are the same as the last version. If you use LR or selective editing, then maybe it's worth it. There's a new app, Perspective Efex, but with the good perspective corrections in LR and PS, can't see the benefit. This is the 3 upgrade (paid for) to the Nik Collection since DXO bought it.

Hi
SEP completely re-done. As is VIVEZA. Well worth upgrade of 60 bucks.

You are quoting a post from 2020 which is the previous upgrade!

Thanks. What version are you comparing it to?

Having to create new layers shouldn't be an issue for me as I always use Nik on objects, enabling me to edit or delete the filters later. However I'd prefer not to spend money unless there's a huge improvement on the free version.

I'm trialling it but don't think I'll pay for it. It's only Viveza and Nik Silver Efex that have changed, the rest is the same, so not worth paying at this stage as no doubt you will need to pay again when Color Efex and the rest get an overhaul.
Some things have changed a lot and honestly I find it much more fiddly to use compared to the earlier versions. Additionally now you have to create a new layer before launching Nik as otherwise it works on the existing layer. I hate that there is nowhere to change this in the preferences. Definitely a backward step I think. I know there's been positive feedback about it and maybe it's because I'm set in my ways (been using Nik since it first came out many years ago), but I'm not a fan of the "upgrade" and am fed up paying for small changes. I'm sure this upgrade has actually had a lot of behind the scenes coding changes, but as a user, I'm a bit ambivalent.

Another pp program that the NIK Collection works well with is Affinity. I freakin LOVE that program.

Designed by a Canadian, who is now living in Britain, Affinity is only about 6yrs old. One-time purchase fee of $70, I've found it much easier to use and learn than PS. Also has free upgrades, very well done free tutorials and affordable mini-courses. And, it doesn't crash constantly, like PS was doing, just because it didn't like my OS.

Still using the free version with Corel PSP. Would need a pretty strong reason to upgrade to the new paid version.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear about whether to upgrade to 3.x or not, Thank you :)

I'm still using the old/free version. Still strong with PS CC and Lightroom Classic CC. No issues.

Do you happen to know what's the oldest version of Photoshop those will work with?

I am using it from Lightroom 3.6. Next to that I am using Photoshop CS3 but they don't seem to connect to that version.

Is there a link for that?

I can't find it.

I'd downloaded it for free on my old computer, then downloaded the free trial (in a hurry to edit for a challenge) on the new computer.

Now, I can't figure out how to get the old files into PS on the new computer since it already thinks I have it (but the free trial expired).

That is about version 2.5.0. Would be surprised if that one is for free. If so, it’s great, if not, have a look at this video:

Thanks!

Unfortunately the things they mention in the video are no longer on the site to click.

Unless I'm missing something...

It's still there. try this link: https://nikcollection.dxo.com/nik-collection-2012/

You still have to give your emailaddress and then they send you the link.
