Sarah, thanks for the plug! )) Actually, I did a whole series of those last month, while my mom was staying with us. There were lots and lots of entries in that Facebook group which were amateurish photographically but wonderfully inventive and hilarious, so I decided to go mostly for a solid photographic technique, just to be a little different. This calculation paid off, they went quite popular, one of them got more than 43K likes :)

I'd rather it be non-pandemic... it's a fun but hard enough challenge without adding in the extra "requirement", IMHO.

As for a challenge to run it basically then becomes who is the most creative as an artisan rather than a photographer. In other words, the created piece is what gets scored rather than the photo.

Don't get me started on that. It got me run out of town when I said the same thing the last week of the last DPL. Don't believe me? Go check. ;)

that argument could be used against any studio shot or any set-up shot. it's well established that DPC has such challenges all the time.

This idea is very old but mushroomed now with people staying home.

I'd prefer "in the manner of" instead of imitating but of course it's just my opinion

Sounds very hard.

But, very fun.

To be clear, not my work but the work of the artists in the Facebook group linked in the article which I've now linked separately. They range from the utterly brilliant to the downright hysterical (and brilliant). When you find the naked Russian on a motorcycle you'll know what I mean by the latter.

Personally I think it's a great idea...

The key to getting this one is to drill through the article to the photos in the Facebook group. Yes, some are works of art like in the article, and some are just celebrations of being stuck. The key here is to find the art that you know you can do with what you have and go for it.

Saw this article about Russians creating photographs that imitate art with only what they have during lockdown. It's brilliant.

Post a side-by-side of the original and your version.
