All the very best to you, Bear, and to Penny. You're beyond distinguished.

Hang in there, Bear!

Don't cave on the beard, either! *grin*

Robert bear_music was about to make one of his sporadic visits to the barber when things changed. He now has a rather magnificent, almost Santa Claus worthy, beard which I snapped (rather than snipped) the other day.

Here’s a good Beard Trimmer - semi reasonable and adjustable.

ALL Bears have beard trimmers, it's a requirement of the species, or at least the civilized component of it :-) However, THIS bear has decided not to trim his pelt, facial or otherwise, until he is released from house arrest. We'll keep you posted :-)

I bend over to brush out my hair with my head upside down. This morning I grabbed the scissors and cut off two inches. Looks fine. And no human will see me for a year anyway, so..... :)

OH - well search for a different pair - again looking for a mid range (bear in mind that each pair of my sissors costs $375-550 each)...wink

Will do. And it sounds as if Uncle Pete was quite the good sport!

Oh - he was a jewel!!! Quite the paranoid character - his parents were Russian - never naturalized - he (as well as all of my mothers siblings) were “investigated” during the Cold War. One time - in the 70’s he called up my sister-in-law (this was the first time she had really meet “Uncle Pete”) - and said that he was at the McDonalds in town - that he was surrounded and the government was there to take him out...SUPER paranoid...but had a heart of gold!!! But he could be a hoot!!!

My son bought clippers a few weeks ago and did his own hair, then he did mine a few days ago - came out great! ... but I've never had my hair cut when it's wet. Always dry. Interesting.

I comb the hair from the back of my head over my forehead and trim to desired length. The longer hair can be left as is.. if you are just layering comb forward from the crown and trim but not straight across.. angle the cut so the sides are a bit longer and the middle shorter. When you comb the hair back again it should blend in nicely.

Another funny story which again includes my Uncle Pete - My parents had a very high book case as the back of our Kitchen sink and counters. My Uncle Pete came for one of his visits - he was leaning against the bookcase/cabinet and I (age 5 ish) pulled a chair up, climbed up and proceeded to ask him to bend his head forward...I took the sleeve of my shirt and "rubbed/polished" his head...then pronounced it nice n shiny..wink

Like I said - he was VERY good natured!!!

I once saw some guys working with a power hedge-trimmer on the end of a 12-foot pole -- you could work at a safe distance ... probably doesn't qualify as "best judgment" though ... :-(

Hahahaha!

I've cut our boys' hair since they were born. Have cut Hubby's for years before that.

The boys have gone away. I cut Hubby's again in this Pandemic Quarantine. But, for my own... I've only ever done my bangs and sides.

Now, though, I've done Tucker's (the dog) hair/fur.

Things are going sideways now.

Funny story - I'm of Russian Decent (2nd Generation) - My Uncle Pete looked like a typical balding russian mob with brow hair that could be BRAIDED!!! I came home once to Michigan (I live in Florida) and he said to me - Janine, Janine...you have to trim my hair...I said - but Uncle Pete YOU have NO hair - he said - NO, no these (indicating his brows)...ha ha - he was the sweetest man I've even known...

Reach out to them - you will be amazed at how much that means to us! For our loyal clients to check in on us - mind you I'm checking in on my clients - I have a few that are very elderly and totally shut in for this fiasco - for a variety of medical reasons. It's always nice to hear from my clients...

yours is fairly short right Joanna? I'd use thinning shears - BC you will "shatter" your edges vs a "straight" blunt cut - if you reach to the back of your head (I'm right handed) you can pull your hair up between your fingers and "gage" the length that you want to keep (moving your hand away from your head) and lay the scissors next to your straight fingers and clip that away...it will take several strokes of the scissors - therefore creating the ragged edge that I think you wear...then work your fingers around your head.

In the front hairline (on yourself) comb your hair forward (so it is horizontal with your shoulders)...then determine how much you want to take off and "point cut" (straight) into that area by about a 1/2" - this will create a nice layer in the front and create that "shattered" look - I tend to not look in the mirror - my brain (what brain I do have) tends to fight with what my hands are doing but if I bend forward and "feel" the hair (length - usually I can see it) then I trim away - bear in mind...you can always take off more later - think small little bits

I used to cut my own hair when I worked alone - it was a short, spicy, shattered haircut - no precision involved...

By "Right Handed" - I mean that I use my scissors in my right hand - hair in the left...

Excellent. Might just give it a whirl. Would pinking sheers work?

Ya - NOT so much - look at it this way - you invest a little into this and it's probably less than what you were paying for 1 haircut - and I'm gonna bet you'll need more than 1 haircut before this is all done!
