Two things!
1. Honest feedback! -I LOVE IT! - yup I am not going to hesitate it loud :)
2. About photography, I am not an expert and I try new things and yes I make lot of mistakes. Sometime back in one of the thread I mentioned, my first entry in the DPCs. vs. now, yes there are improvements and yes there are feedback from the experts like you and that helped me to grow. Since you mentioned that you have done something like this before, do you have details on setup and how did you do? I tried to make out from the words but it is hard unless, you have way to show them?
The reason I started doing this "How did I do" is because I remember in the past may be 4-5 years back, fellow DPC members used to share how did they do and all. Now there are not many even though there are some really good shot and I wonder how did they do that. In case if you have tips and tricks then please do share, not only for me but people like me who don't know much and trying to learn almost on daily basis.

For me, when I see a "macro" challenge I'm looking for something that shows me a detailed rendering of something that I wouldn't see in another challenge. For that reason I scored yours lower than I would have otherwise were it placed even in a Free Study (Note: I've shot stuff like this before).

This one I didn't do before and I didn't want to capture bugs or flower or even water drops on the flower etcs and thought to try this!
This was the submission: 
This is how I took the shot:
1. I took a glass bowl, filled 80% with the water
2. Added two spoons vegetable oil
3. Steer them slowly to make sure the oil doesn't get spread too much
4. next, I placed it on a glass surface so that it all becomes see through
5. I placed a colored paper underneath
6. I placed a silver refactor umbrella, you might think why I used that? that is because I wanted to do this outdoor to have nature light falling on the color paper so that the pop but at the same time I didn't want to have sky reflection on the water surface but I did want a some reflective light falling on to give some shadow around the bubbles.
7. Took the shot and wholla! all done!!
