There are some huge bodies of water called *ponds*.. take for example Sunfish Pond in the Delaware Water Gap. No one is sure why it's called Sunfish Pond.. when you climb the Gap to this body of water it's quite large and a beautiful place to camp out. But, I doubt it would qualify as a puddle or stream. I think the trick here is to find a puddle of water w/an interesting reflection in it. I think you could also shoot a stream of water coming from a lake or other larger body of water. If worse comes to worse, use a bucket and make your own puddle. ;-)

Well I’ve never figured out why a Sound isn’t a Bay...

Roughly speaking, a bay has a single opening, a sound has multiple inlets. The technical definition of a sound is "in geography, a sound is a large sea or ocean inlet larger than a bay; or a narrow sea or ocean channel between two bodies of land." Note the bold: that's what we Americans tend to think of as a sound.

So you're saying Biscayne Bay is a Sound? ;-)

Interesting, there are plenty of ponds in the province I grew up in that are multiple kilometers in length. I'm guessing the idea of a lake vs. pond might be somewhat regional as well.

It doesn't MATTER what they call it on a map. All that matters is how the voters perceive it. If it looks large or wide you are doomed, IMO... Cape Cod is littered with "kettle ponds" (look 'em up) and they ALL have names, but I don't know of but one of them I'd think of as a pond myself... I am on the lookout for rivulets, LOL

My guess...if it has a name on Google Maps it's probably a lake, like Lake Tahoe. Nobody (except maybe the locals), will give a pond any kind of a name & if they do it won't have the word pond in it (ETA except on Cape Cod). The water-filled sinkholes in Florida don't have names, that I know of. There are a few towns with the word pond in it. And the movie On Golden Pond. And you could be joking about the people who live "across the pond."

I live near a pretty pond created by rain runoff, & it doesn't even appear on Google Maps, nor does it have a name. It's popular with migrating geese & it has a boat landing & I often see people fishing from their boats. ")

Well there's that Robert...you can get quite low making a small pond/puddle look large and endless.

I’m just trying to figure out where the translation is ... lol

Well, a LAKE becomes a POND when it springs a LEAK :-)
