I have not tried tagging using File Explorer, but that is the official way to work with tags in Windows 10. For example, when viewing a folder with images, I often find it useful to use the "large icons" view. From this view, you could select multiple images by holding the control key while selecting. After selecting, from the top ribbon, click on the Properties button. When the properties window is displayed, click on the Details tab and add your tag.
Searching/viewing tagged photos is as easy as using the search bar. I tried tagging a couple of very old photos and then typing the tag (the word "garage") into the search box. The two images I tagged came up instantaneously.

Edit to add: All your old tags should be there, as they should be stored within the file as metadata. So you should be able to just search and they should come right up. As Gina already posted, don't tag JPEG originals that you are keeping as proof files for entries. That will invalidate them.

I am not positive how the Windows Photo Gallery software handled tags. If the tags were processed as a file property for each image, you might be able to see them in File Explorer.

Open File Explorer and navigate to a folder of images that you have tagged. Then use the File Explorer VIEW menu to select "Details" as how you want to see the files. That will display a list of files using a series of columns (usually Filename, Type, Size, Date).

Right click in the column header row to display a checklist of possible columns. Check "Tags" to display the tags column. If your previous tagging attached to the images as a file property, the tags may be visible now.

EDITED TO ADD: In File Navigator, the left hand portion of the ribbon allows you to select "Details Pane." When you click that, the viewing area divides to show a panel on the right with many lines of file properties. One of the lines is "Tags" and the adjacent field allows you to add tags (if the file type supports tags, ok for jpg, not for png, probably not for raw files). Another line is "Comments" with an adjacent field that lets you add comments (if the file type supports comments).

The limits imposed by file type make other keywording solutions more attractive than tags, but if you have already put the effort into tagging, file navigator might be useful.

I'm not sure if it's much help, but in folder view you can right click on a photo, click properties, then details and it will allow you to add tags to jpg files. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work for RAW or PSD files.

A word of warning - adding tags changes the metadata so you won't have an unmodified jpg original if you need one to validate a challenge entry.

Hi guys - I hope this post is OK.

Here it goes - am seeking help/guidance I have a windows 7 PC and have used the windows photo gallery and the "tagging" feature to tag and group all of my photos.

I bought a new PC and it has windows 10 but not the windows photo gallery like in windows 7 so when I copy my photos over I have all my photos but nothing is grouped by the tags since I don't have that software on windows 10.

To be more clear -- I am trying to find something that is similar to when you open file explorer on on the left panel it would have all of my tags and when I click on the tag I see all of the photos with that given tag-

Wondering if anyone knows if I am just doing something wrong on Windows 10 or if there is some other software that will act like the Windows 7 Photo Gallery to allow me to sort and store my photos by Tags ?
