Ok -- I'm trying to use lightroom when I have no clue what I'm doing.

So I started my "ordinary" shot in lightroom, continued it in photoshop, and saved. When I go back to lightroom, I see what I think is the final shot. When I double click on it, it just sits there and does nothing. When I choose to edit in photoshop, it opens it without any of its layers.

Oh wait, I think I found it.

I miss doing everything through bridge and photoshop. :(

Old dogs... and such.

THIS is the reason I never even shoot in RAW.

Lightroom is very confusing. Bridge and PS works fine for me.

Bridge and Photoshop are all I need.

Here's my suggestion...
Instead of using the "Edit in" functionality of Lr, simply export after completing your Lr work to a 16-bit file (.psd or .tiff). Then open that in Ps, do your editing and save. You choose where to export it, so you can't lose track of it. Lr is great for what it is meant for; cataloging, culling, basic to intermediate edits with limited local editing. Ps shines for the complex, layered processing that is sometimes necessary. Horses for courses.

I use the RAW software from my camera manufacturer (Canon DPP or Olympus Viewer) to sort the keepers, adjust and export them to JPG and then edit that JPG in Paintshop Pro. Pretty much the workflow that Kirbic suggests.

I tried Lightroom once when I got a good deal on it. Didn't care for it. Required more horsepower than my PC could muster and I would be forced to learn a new and alien workflow. I suppose if I were a professional, it might make sense to invest the time to learn it.

lightrrom works for me, do 99% my editing in it only fire up photoshop to layer mask or superimpose shots together which i very rarely do i can do everything in lightroom i need occasionally edit in viveza2 but again its only a click in lightroom to do that

ive got over 600k pics close to 10tb connected to lightroom on my mid 2011 27" iMac 3.4 ghz but i am running 32gb of ram it runs perfectly well with photoshop and final cut pro running as well

i switched from aperture 3/4 years ago took some adjusting but once i did id never go back

stick with it only takes a quick google and youtube video to find anything out etc
