In the money-no-object camp, the Gitzo Traveler CF can't be beat. I've had one for about 6 years that collapses down to around 15" and extends up to about 55" using the center column. Most of the others are 18"+ when collapsed. I recently ordered one of the new-ish Benro travel pods that have the tilting center column and collapses to around 16", but sent it back because even when collapsed its overall diameter was about the size of a CD, significantly bigger than the Gitzo, which is about as big around as a coffee cup. Weighed a bit more too.

You might want to take a look at the Mefoto Backpacker Air... this is a pretty decent tripod in a compact form..

It doesn't have to support anything larger than an Olympus PEN, and usually just a Canon G7x subcompact. Main requirement is that it doesn't take up much space in my luggage for business travel. Thanks.

I have a Really Right Stuff TQC-14 for hiking; overall length 20" collapsed. The hot ticket right now is the Manfrotto BeFree which is really, really compact and tall enough so you don't have to stoop that much. DO NOT try a Three Legged Thing unless you want to carry an allen wrench with you all the time, 'cause it's wobbly.

Looking for something to stand about chest to shoulder height. I wasn't looking at the gorillapod and knockoffs as I don't always have something to attach it to. For example, on a beach or the middle of a road.

After my initial posting, I found a clone of the taller Zipshot for $30 on Amazon.

Dang, for once I had the perfect equipment recommendation ... and it's no longer available. :-(

You can get a knockoff version on Amazon for less than 10 bucks...

I don't think it's a knock-off -- I almost sure it's the same thing without the REI-branding. Get it, even if you get something else too ... :-)

Found mine...

Don't think I'll ever use it again. If anyone wants it, "free to a good home."

I'm pretty sure I have a copy of that exact product skulking 'round the house someplace...

Get a gorilla tripod, I won this tripod in Viewbug and it's always in my bag.
