Cheers Kees - I am looking forward to giving it a whirl but obviously my Canons will always be my first choice for photography.

Im very happy with my P9 Huawei.
You will love the freedom and the extendable memory.

The Huawei looked very good too but the S7 seemed to be hailed from all quarters as the bees knees:)

Drum roll.....

And the final decision is Galaxy S7

I took my iPhone 6 Plus to see a Genius at the Apple Store yesterday to show him the Multi-touch disease. He was not interested and offered either to send my phone away for £140 (which could take 7-10 days and was not guaranteed to fix the issue OR to sell me a new handset for nearly £300 which I am sure is prone to the same hardware fault. I have therefore no good feeling for Apple any more so after 5 different iPhones I am jumping ship. I would have waited for the Galaxy S8 if my phone would have lasted that long but it may be up to 3 or 4 months away.

Thanks to everyone for all the great advice to help me make the final decision.

I currently own a Huawei Mate 2 which is old and outdated by the standards of the new phones on the market. I love the phone, but the camera has been my one complaint since day one. That said, My wife has a huawei GX8 that has a pretty impressive camera.

Lol, I wish. If 2016 is anything to go by then you may have to dog a little deeper than the front page to find out:)

My instagram feed - Link here is mostly using Nexus 5X. I have been pleasantly surprised at what this phone can produce.

For night shots using phone camera I have realized using HDR mode does wonders in reducing noise and retaining colors. e.g. taken at dusk

Thank you. There are some great options these days for camera phones. Thank you for sharing.

Sorry for delay in replying - hectic weekend.

Thanks Tiberius - that is good to know about the phone and its fragility. I did look at a neighbours S6 and it is a sexy looking phone so if the S7 is just as good I am sure I would be very pleased.

Oh Janine, that is interesting to hear that about the iPhone 7+. I certainly can't wait for the iPhone 8+ as I don't expect that will be here for at least another 8 months - I will be lucky if my phone works still in 8 days time. Good to know the iPhone 7+ is not as bad as I had read.

And thanks to everyone else. I have enough info now to make an informed choice over the next few days - work has been so busy I haven't had a chance to sit down and think clearly about it:)

I had one too. Neat little phone. I then upgraded to a Z3.

I even got a ribbon with it.

The Z5 was flawed by overheating. They had one premium version with a 4k screen which proved to be just a gimmick. They abandoned the Z line after that. Now there is an X series with XZ as the flagship. Whilst I enjoyed the Sony phones Samsung proved a better phone. S7 has a very good phone call sound, a good loud speaker, good signal etc.

I have an iPhone 7P. Love it....I haven't noticed loss of detail. If anything else I'd say it's over the top. Bokeh is amazing!!! I don't know of another phone that does that and the RAW...

BUT at this point in the game I'd probably wait for the next edition to come out...it's Apples 10 Year Anniversary, and I've read that they will be unleashing even more improvements ... might be worth the wait IF you can crutch by.

Thanks Leo, I checked out the equipment tab. Wow! A lot more phones being used than I would have thought, and the results are very good. Thanks again

Me,pick me!

S7

Thanks. One more question about the S7. I read it is fairly fragile and cracks and scrapes easily - any truth in this report?

I have a case. I bought an Otterbox and a slimmer yet sturdy Spigen. I do run trails so I new something. I have it for 9 months now and is fine

I've entered challenges with cellphone camera pics. My results were mediocre, but I'm just a mediocre photographer.

However, there are many photographers on this site that have ribboned or placed in the top five or top ten.
If you go to the "equipment" tab, then "camera" link, look at the various camera phones and you will see plenty of camera phones entries that have won/done well.

Eta: Looking at my page, two out of my five highest scoring pics were taken with an iPhone (scored > 6.xxxx).
